Coronavirus

Those numbers would apply to the flu as well though - we only know about flu cases that seek attention.

The media's just reporting what they see. Why do we keep blaming them for our own responses?

I’m not convinced that they are reporting accurately. The news media has a habit of twisting and exaggerating things. Sensationalism sells and their whole business is about making money.

and that's before they add their political bias.
the news isn't always ,,, uh,,, consistant (that keeps me out of trouble)
back in the early 70's while stationed on Okinawa we tuned in to the local news, the
American Forces Radio Network, received the home town paper in the mail,
and, since it was a "listening post" we intercepted all the international news feeds directly off the air.
that included Radio Hanoi,,,talk about bias,,, damn, they didn't like us at all

to sum it up, the facts are usually quite flexible.

@ericphoto did you get back OK?

I managed to unload without a hoist. used a couple boards for levers and a ramp.

I grew up watching Walter Cronkite on the news every evening, he told the story, tried to provide details, and didn't editorialize(at least not that I noticed). The news now is more like an entertainment show, hyping what they decided was the story of the day to drive ratings.

SO TRUE!!!! And when they start talking to each other, expressing opinions, time to change channels!!!

Yup. Had a great trip. Engine was out of the truck and in the garage in time for me to transfer my dog (shared custody) back to the wife Sunday night. I even found a few rolls of Charmin toilet paper in a dollar store in Kentucky.

Glad you came to our mini meet instead of going to the one in western PA.

I think people never want to take responsibility for anything anymore

If news says you need to watch out because a storm is coming, and it turns out to be a BAD storm
People say "You never said it would be THAT BAD!!!!"

So the trend is to OVER state danger.................to make the morons take cover
But then there are the people that say, "it wasn't that bad, I will never believe those news guys again"

LOL, can't win

There are things that are just UNpredictable, storms for one, and the spread of any virus for another

Happy St Patrick's Day - And the spread of the virus.

The coronavirus is spreading around Dallas and Fort Worth not far from me. Texas Governor Greg Abbott is afraid to close anything, and has placed the burden on local government. DFW is a very wealthy and social area. The almighty dollar definitely rules here.

Texas has 76 cases of COVID-19. Much more than Ohio did when they closed bars and restricted dining in restaurants. Today is Saint Patrick's day, and the bars in Dallas are open for celebration, even though Dallas knows the virus here is being spread by community. I imagine that there will be a spike in cases here in the next week.

Unfortunately, you can't count on people to do the right thing. If we could, there wouldn't be a need for laws. Politicians want re-elected, and businesses want your money. Many politicians don't want to piss of the public, or big businesses (supporters).

But it's your job as a government official to protect the people you represent. Even if it's unpopular. If you're not doing the job for the people, then why are you there?

I want this to be over. But as long as these idiots keep gathering in bars and restaurants here, it's going to continue.

SC just followed suit with all the government closings, restrictions on gatherings, restaurant restrictions, etc.

In Iran people are protesting the government closing acess to their shrines. The common practice there is to walk up and kiss and even lick the shrine. Thousands of people do this a day. So they just stormed the gates to go in anyway.

Yup thousands of people licking the same thing over and over should help keep this contained... :no2:

Some Bars, some restaurants and the Renaissance Fair, are closed here--BUT, since the bar/cantina was open, yes, I'm one of the culprits, that's visiting the bar!!! I just couldn't help it--it's a "Baser" instinct thing///:icon_idea: The dam idea just "popped" into my head!!!! But, on the plus side, there was almost nobody around, the service was great, and I got my fair share, of "green beer"!!!!:yahoo:

PS--I did NOT, Lick anything!!!!

I just bought a 30 pack of beer and a bottle of Captain Morgan. I don't drink much anyway, so that should hold me for a while.

Mre's Sold out..... on most sites

Ar500 body armor 8-12 week delay

Bulk ammunition...... cheap stuff is gone except Tulammo.

Toilet paper is none existent lol

It appears the stock market is the only thing going broke.

Everyone else with real material things are thriving. Even though they all claim to be struggling with orders.

Gold is still around $1600 an oz.

Cash is being limited at some Branches.

I always believed in preparation for multiple events.

So I shall eat like a king!!!!

I have stuff in place for a few months if there is an emergency. I have been building it up slowly over time. I guess time will tell if I need it or not.

I was mainly curious about what people were thinking. I got what we need for an extended stand off.

I have a can of chowdah and a spork... I'll be ok.
