Coronavirus

Talked to my mother in Ohio. She's 78, has a lot of health issues, and shouldn't be going out or driving. She gets meals on wheels 5 days a week, and apparently only has 3 rolls of toilet paper.

This is ridiculous.

Do any local grocery stores deliver?

Hy-Vee does around here.

That's not really much help when the grocery stores are empty though. Most places are even out of things you could subsitute for toilet paper like tissues and napkins.

You should hoard before the herd. I've always been someone who buys in bulk. A 30 pack of double rolls of TP normally lasts me 1/2 year. I have enough rice to last me a month at all times. Same with all the staples. If necessary I can bake my own bread. I have enough for me to last a month at all times in my freezer and canned goods. I'm still going to the store just as normal but only for fresh vegs for salad. I shake my head in disbelief. Everybody dies. Get over it. Society is too hung up on living a long life instead of living a good life.

I need to start dating women that are 42.

Just saw a story about craigslist add for FREE toilet paper

"My husband is an IDIOT and bought 500+ rolls of toilet paper!"
"1 24 roll pack per person, free, you pick it up"
"Sorry, I though he was "paper" trained"

Well those people will be robbed and murdered by morning...

They will still get more shipments in though.

Well the Mayor of Fishers Indiana declared a travel advisory. No unnecessary travel, only to and from store, doctor, work if you are not working from home and a few other scenarios. It is getting real...

While that decision hasn't been handed down by our mayor... We've kind if self imposed that strategy. I called my brother in law yesterday and we put a fishing trip on hold and we also postponed a trip to Michigan pick up my 83 year old mother to bring her here for a few months. I feel it's probably worse here in the Chicago area then where she is in Michigan. Also the fact that everyone in our household works directly with the public... there is probably a greater chance one of us brings this home then at my sisters house.

I employ 5 people who rely on their paychecks to survive... all the other people on my payroll are young school kids that live at home with their family. I altered my schedule to give my hours to the 5 people that need the money to survive. Because I have no idea where this ends and it could end with me locking the place up if it's mandated. My hope is that it doesn't happen... but if it does... I hope that extra money they make will help them get through this.

I do need to go out today to the auto parts store and will probably go to the grocery store too. I'm pretty well set up with staples to get through this so my plan is to just grocery shop for the week as if all things are normal.

I dropped my kid off at daycare and the parking lot was empty. I got to wondering if I missed something.

But the door was unlocked so I rang the bell, a lady met me there to take him and check him in. Usually I have to take him back to the infant room and take him out of the carrier and then clock him in. I guess parents are not allowed in anymore.

Didn't get a good goodbye in (more for me than him) but it was a lot quicker for me than normal.

The media sensationalizes everything now, if it's going to snow on Friday they start freaking out on Tuesday like Armageddon is coming. I wonder how much they're distorting this virus. The fatality rate they use is 3% but 80-85% of the people who get it don't even seek medical attention or get tested. If the fatality rate is 3% of the 20%, that means it's .6% of the total,on par with the flu. It would be helpful if they'd talk about how many people usually die from the flu versus how many have dies from it this year. I'm 65, I've figured out that nothing is as bad as you feared it would be and nothing is as good as you'd hoped. Don't panic but stay home if you're sick if it's at all possible.

Those numbers would apply to the flu as well though - we only know about flu cases that seek attention.

The media's just reporting what they see. Why do we keep blaming them for our own responses?

I grew up watching Walter Cronkite on the news every evening, he told the story, tried to provide details, and didn't editorialize(at least not that I noticed). The news now is more like an entertainment show, hyping what they decided was the story of the day to drive ratings.
