You are exactly right. The waiting period is for long term effects. The counter side of that, we have no idea of the long term effects of the coronavirus itself. People who have had it with little or no symptoms could develop dangerous conditions years from now. To make that point from this very thread, shingles is a condition caused by the chicken pox virus that takes years or decades to appear. Who knows what weird illness people could develop from covid down the line. Just because you've had it and survived does not mean you are safe from its future effects.
It should also be noted, the drug companies did not willingly skip the waiting period for the vaccine. They didn't violate the law or procedures in any way. The U.S government suspended the waiting period to speed up the approval process. The government rushed through the red tape, the drug companies did not rush through the science.
Yeah, and if people are willing to try it out before everything is known that's something I totally support. Just so long as they are accurately informed about what they're getting and it's completely voluntary.
