cooling temp and oil pressure issue

I have a 1986 ranger 5spd and it cranks and runs great until it warms up and then the temp gauge shows its running hot and the oil pressure shows its low pressure but the entire cooling system is brand new and another thing when it warms up I have lifter chattering. I need some help fixing this problem.

It just sounds like it`s still overheating that will cause the oil pressure to drop. Did you change the water pump and fan clutch along with a radiator cap. run it with the radiator cap off and see if you get constant bubbles. You may have a cracked or leaky head gasket if the system goes into high pressure it will not circulate the coolant properly. Just a few things to look at.

The old trick of leaving the radiator cap loose, if the engine stays more in the normal range then do a leakdown test. With a compression tester fitting apply about 30psi to each cylinder while on TDC of the compression stroke if you get bubbles out of the radiator then you have a bad head gasket or cracked head. also listen to the exhaust, intake or crankcase for hissing. If you hear alot of hissing in the crankcase its rings, intake or exhaust would be a valve.

water pump was changed but I haven't done anything to the fan clutch and I forgot to mention that the previous owner had the top end overhauled last April due to blown head gasket and thanks i'll try that Monday and let you know how it goes

I fixed the overheating issue today and it was a bad water pump gasket leak but the low oil pressure is still there. I believe it is a bad gauge or sending unit and my fuel gauge quits working after it gets below 3/4 tank so I need a new fuel sending unit also

any suggestions on what could make the oil pressure be low still

Those guages are nothing more than a glorified idiot light.
Change the sender and see if it improves. A mechanical guage will help get real pressure. Another factor is the age of the engine . . .

changed the oil sender today but nothing changed it still shows low pressure so i'm gonna pick up a mechanical gauge tomorrow and see what it shows. do you guys think it could be that the motor has a lot of sludge restricting the oil pressure?
