I have a 4.0 99 ranger, 4x4 with roughly 79K miles. Well maintained, just finished full tuneup. But ever since i bought the truck it smells of coolant after being driven. Dry as a bone no leaking anywhere, does not leak coolant, does not consume coolant, fluid level was low when i first got the truck, added proper coolant and hasnt droppped since. Is this normal for it to smell like this? I checked the radiator when cool, if it was anymore full it would be in the street. I'm out of ideas as to what/where the smell is. Any input please let me know. thanks!

if it smell indoor but not outdoor it's probably a small leak at your heater core

I have the same with my 06. Not a leak or anything. Just a faint hint of antifreeze in the engine compartment. I dont see it as anything to worry about.

There can be a minor leak at the rear of the lower intake manifold if you're smelling it in the engine bay and/or while driving with the windows down. There is a coolant passage at the rear of the cylinder heads but they are not utilized by the lower intake. A small leak can develop in that area and you would not be able to see it very easily, unless it was leaking enough to drip onto the ground before evaporating. Just a thought....
