Console armrest, aftermarket options?

On my 04' ranger I've got the same issue as many, with the floating armrest support cracking. I've been babying it for years, but it finally completely gave up. I've seen many with the same issue. The armrest and console is still in great shape, and I see I can buy a aftermarket replacement hinge/plastic piece setup for around $50... but its still mostly plastic and will probably fail again.

I could come up with something custom, but was wondering if anyone has leads on something I can purchase that is a direct fit and is more substantial, or if someone has built and would build another solid hinge portion for a reasonable cost with some steel support.

Update, posting here for future reference. Had some extra free time today, almost bought the plastic version when I did find that luckily Dorman makes a metal version that is supposed to be an improvement over the stock plastic. Lots of great reviews and it's currently only $10 more than a plastic knockoff version. Ordered today, be here in a few days, will have installed by this weekend and will update. Since the vinyl on my armrest is in perfect condition I'm feeling hopeful!

Thanks for updating and posting your experience, that rarely happens.

For anyone with the 60/40 bench with the broken center console (aka armrest) lid, metal versions of those plates are available on Amazon/eBay too. I've eyed them a bunch to replace my broken one, but I'm going to ditch it for an Explorer console instead.
