that was an 88 full car with 203,xxx miles. it needed rebuilt. i was not sure on the wiring and setup with it so i didnt risk it, although i should have... i am really kicking myself right now.

With hypers, 10lbs of boost will be safe and worth doing! Just make sure u watch AFR's with a wideband, and have conservative timing, and it should last till ya have the budget to throw in forged pistons! With megasquirt, you can push 450+ HP through a 2.3T with factory forged internals, methanol injection, porting, Holset Turbo, Fuel, and FMIC. It has been done a few times!

i want something that can last a good long while, but still get great power. would backing down the psi to 5-7 make it last longer with the hypers?

that could have very well been a worth while purchase, oh well theres always other deals out there,

lower boost will make it last a little longer because less boost=more forgiving

if you want a good long lasting motor you will want forged pistons

Its all about the tune... and keeping it from detonating..

Detonation is what kills engines..

Is there a knock sensor on the engine? any way to moniter knock counts? If not i would build some knock ears for when you are tuning it. that and a wideband a/f ratio gauge is all you need.
