Computers in Vehicles going bad?

So what if drag racers run carbs. They also run the car for, at most, 1/2 mile at a time. They aren't worried about emissions, economy, or even reliability, they are worried about 1/4 mile time. Dump as much fuel as you can as fast as you can.

If we are going to look at what drag cars are using, why don't we go all the way and look at the funny-cars. They basically have a shower head pouring into the intake.

another reason a carb is used on race cars is better response to the throttle cause ther is no computer lag

WTF is computer lag... Lets just see who can tune a carb on a drag car to not have "lag" without taking 2 or 3 passes that day as every track is different and you have to tune the "race carbs" for the weather and climate... Now lets take my ranger for instance 2.3T i hit the throttle i have no "computer lag" i have turbo lag :icon_rofl:... but on a more serious note i can take my ranger to the track and my buddy take his mustang and he will literally have to take 3 passes to get his carb in tune and then start racing... I take 1 pass adjust my fuel pressure for Air fuel and im done no tweakin set screws or shit like that carbs are complicated ESPECIALLY on drag cars between changing jets and shit.. one set of injectors i can make anywhere from 250hp all the way up to 400hp but with a a carb you would have to change jets, that means bowls off loose a quart of 6 dollar a gallon gas then see if you were lucky enough to pick the right size jets... EFI WINS AGAIN

doesnt most drag racers run carbs?

i rest my case

They also run magnetos...

I have both carb and EFI, when they work they are both great systems. They are both also a pain when they don't work...

I also have about every style of ignition system under the sun as well; mag, points distributor, Duraspark and COP. Duraspark is my favorite, COP isn't too bad, points go bad, and a mag is a major PITA when they go on the fritz (mine hasn't given me any problems yet)

My snowpushing tractor has a carb and a points distributor, it didn't miss a beat throughout our nasty winter. The weakest link was if I wanted to sit in the open cockpit or not, otherwise pull the choke, pull the starter, push the choke halfway in and it was running, -20 with snow blowing sideways or otherwise.

Magnetos are fun though.

You can charge them up and set them on the bench and wait for some poor sucker to come along and pick it up saying "what is *ZAP*?"

I have never heard of this "computer lag" of which you speak.

when i put the hammer down in an EFI truck, i'm hauling ass *RIGHT NOW* not *IN A BIT*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

DAMN COMPUTERS!!!!!!!!!

computer lag....you mean the .00024 seconds it takes the computer to respond with the lead foot?....

now on your carb, let it idle, and do a quick tap on the throttle....*tap* *milliseconds* *rev*......

i like carbs they are amazing for the time frame....they are history, the future at this point is efi.....like our future is finding an alterative to gasoline......

Are you thinking of a condenser? I have never had a mag do that, they are pretty much a sealed unit.

I have never noticed lag with either setup...

But yeah, carbs are a dying breed.

I have wondered if my carbed 2.8 durasparked will survive a emp attack but I am more concerned about the big flood from global warming. He He If it works dont fix it.

I like EEC-IV because you have the benefits of EFI and can pull codes with a piece of wire. :icon_twisted:

I like carburetors too, but not for a daily driver.

well, if an EMP goes off, the truck wont start unless its standard XD and maybe not even then!
