Kimcrwbr: I have an electric fuel pump instead of the manual so the bowl is filled as soon as I turn the key...I will check for leaks, but I recently adjusted the float (that was an issue where it would flood even driving...gas poured out of the top of the carb)...I don't know what happens when it sits...I don't smell gas when I shut it off...

Lima: I was concerned about the hose deteriorating from the heat...and actually had to fab one up because the OEM now has a thick rubber coating added where the heater goes...could not find one with a wire support so I had to make one out of a coat hangar...just so the hose doesn't collapse as they are prone to...
I wanted the block heater initially but after three days trying to find a hose I gave up...but the batt charger/warmer did nothing other than letting me crank longer...that would have resulted in worn parts...

Thanks again for the input...the poll didn't lie this time with 75% in favour of the heater.

I've got a trickle-charger and a block-heater on my CJ-7. Hadn't started it for many months, but last week I went out and other than the pump having to fill the bowl it cranked and started like a nice warm day.

Nothing as yet on the Ranger, but I do have plans for both on it, as well. And maybe on the Crown Vic PI, too.

This is the charger on the Jeep:

They run about $30-$40 bucks; Amazon's got it for $32.

I actually kept the charger but returned the battery blankie...might get it a teddy bear and have to tuck it in at night with a little good night kiss on the, ah, horn...no, bumper...no...where the heck do you kiss a truck without seeming perverted?

Anyway, the charger may come in handy. Mine cost me $20 on sale and has three different charging methods...I like the cig lighter plug but that means I have to run the cord in through the window or find a hole in the firewall to feed the charger through...and if the cig lighter ever goes kaput I would have to phart around with it to connect to the battery...

Nice little unit, but I was going to get the ones that allow you to boost the truck...might invest in one some day...can make a few bucks giving people boosts...although I probably wouldn't charge someone for a boost...that always ticked me off that tow truck drivers charge upwards of $60 for a boost...RSR!
