2008 ranger 2wd, 2.3, 5 speed 309xxx miles. replaced valve cover and intake gaskets while replacing injectors. Developed code p1289, cylinder head temperature sensor circuit high input and temp gauge is not working after all of this (it worked before this repair). I did find a female grey colored plug laying on the valve cover that had to of layed there since 2008 when the truck left the factory, anyway i did find a matching male and put the two together, the male end runs to the drivers side rear of the head. I did unplug this evening but the temp gauge still doesn´t work, I wondering if if i shorted something out. How do i repair the code problem?

there isn't much to the head temp sensor circuit.
starts at pin 66 of the pcm, goes to the sensor, then to a common signal ground which goes back to pin 91 on the pcm.

the engine coolant temp sensor is on the big metal tube at the rear of the engine, the one you can't see or reach.

it's the orange one in this pi
