I just replaced my clutch this weekend. My exhaust wouldn't unbolt so I cut it clean in between the o2's and the manifolds. Unplugged my o2's and pulled the system free. The sensor on the drivers side wasn't tightened down when I pulled it out. I cut the bolts out that held the flanges, drilled them out, welded my exhaust back together outside of the truck, and bolted it back in with new bolts. The only other thing I did to the engine this weekend was change the fuel filter and change the oil. I test drove it around the block when I was done and everything checked out. Clutch worked. No codes. Then on my way to work this morning, after 10-15 minutes, I find myself struggling to do 55 in third gear. Sounds like it's misfiring bad or something. Then all the sudden it will fire on all 6 and take off like nothing. I checked codes. 136 which is something with the o2 sensors, and 116 which is a temp sensor or something else unrelated to my problem. What gives?

Also, I should have an open plug next to the o2 sensor plugs correct? The purp/yel & orange/yel two pin plug? My book says its for A/T only.

are the o2s clean? and also that wire hanging next to them could go to the back up light sensor on the tranny. that is also the neutral saftey switch

Could I have fried/ messed up my sensor with all the penetrating oil and such i sprayed all over to get bolts free under there?

The o2 problem could be because the engine is not getting the fuel it requires. Maybe when you did the filter, you got a tiny piece of debris in the line. It may be blocking an injector. Just a thought. Best of luck!

Air temp sensors can cause this as well.
Its not common but they do play a direct role.

So this morning i got sick of the coughing along so i pulled over and unplugged my drivers side o2 sensor. Drove it all the way to work without the choking out or misfiring however still seemed to run really rich or somethin. So on my way home i stopped at the autoparts store. Picked up an o2 sensor and put it in. Still ran the same. Still have CEL. I pulled the negative off before i came inside. Ill see what i get in the morning and ill run the code when it comes back. That and ill doublecheck my fuel filter is pointing the right way. I kinda wish i never changed that thing now so i could rule out that being a problem.

I would check the ECT connection and replace if need be. ECT's pretty cheap.
Take a look at the fuel reg and make it sure its working, i hear thy like to leak.

ECT's info/testing

I hope those pages help.
I have all ways heard to start with the lowest code and work your way up

Thats good info on the ect. After reading that though, im fairly sure the reason i got my code 116 was because i didnt wait for my engine to warm up all the way. Plus if thats the problem, why would it act up right after i had just messed with the o2 sensors and fuel filter when the truck ran perfect before?

At this point I would check the fuel pressure.
Then break out the analog volt meter you need one with a scale under a volt.
Check the power wire make sure you are getting 12v.
Check the signal wire and see if its changes.

That I did I removed the O2 and spray a rag with starter fluid. Wrap the rag around the O2 it sould start to read higher volts and go lower as it evaporates.
Becareful the O2 is heated and it gets pretty hot.

If it checks out ok. Then I test the O2 in the truck running. It should bounce around pretty fast.

I hope it helps. It took me awhile track mine down when I had that problem. And it ended up being bad connector.

Heres an update. My CEL came on again on my way to work, but went away for the last 10 minutes of the trip. I hooked the reader up when I got there and all systems go. Then on my way home, all hell broke loose. It sputtered home the ENTIRE WAY, and through the act of revving it in third to do the 55mph speed limit, I busted open one of my cats! I was kind of hoping for a vaccuum leak at this point, but at idle, I'm getting a steady 19-20 which according to my book is about perfect... Next step is I'm going to try and get my hands on a fuel pressure guage, try to test my o2 sensors, or maybe even bring it to my ford dealer or elsewhere.

let us know how it all turns out

Alright I think somethings up. My fuel pressure with key on is upper 30's. Then while running, it's right about 30. I turn the engine off and the pressure creeps up to like 37-38 and has stayed there for the past 20 minutes.
