Within the past couple of days I have been having issues with my clutch. Most of the time, it works fine, but every once in a while when you push in the clutch it will stick about halfway up but still shift ok, other times when it sticks the clutch will not fully disengage. And then after the little fit it will go back to being completely normal.
The fluid level is good and has not dropped in months. The fluid is clean and the master cylinder is less than a year old, the slave cylinder, clutch and flywheel are less than two years old. This truck is the recipient of an M5OD trans swap and it also has the M5OD master, slave, and line, Upon inspection of the master cylinder I noticed that the rod is dragging the collar that it goes through.
I have never seen or heard of issues like this, it's gotten me thoroughly confused. Is there enough of a difference in the 86-87 master cylinders and the 88-91 master cylinders to cause this issue? other than the bore I cannot see any difference....

I would begin to suspect the slave cylinder as they seem to fail frequently.

In the meantime, you could lubricate the master cylinder pushrod with some powdered graphite. I don't know if doing so will just hide another problem though...

I believe the early clutch pedals had the rod connecting pin in a different location on the pedal than on later vehicles which could explain why there is contact with the master and why the stroke is too short. I noticed this when I installed the Mazda trans in my auto truck and had to replace an early pedal I bought with one from a later model to make it work right. Worth checking out anyway.:icon_thumby:
