Clutch pedal hard as a rock?

Hello Everyone,

Last week while driving to work the clutch in my 1996 Ranger, 2x2, 2.3L, 5 speed manual began slipping badly. I quickly nursed it home and parked it in the driveway. I don't know if the bitter cold had anything to do with it, it was -15F.

A few minuted ago, I just went out the the truck to look things over. I tried to push the clutch pedal down to start the engine but the pedal was hard as a rock. When I parked it, it was still easy to push.

I have no idea what could cause the pedal to become so stiff in two days just sitting?

Any help would be most appreciated!

The line between the clutch master and the transmission can be disengaged causing the line to become a closed section...this will cause the pedal to be virtually immovable...So you may want to crawl under to check where the line connects...if it has somehow managed to work its way out, you should be able to pop it back in...may need a couple of screwdrivers to pry the collar back while inserting the line.

If that's not the case...maybe someone else can better diagnose it...

Well the line popped out or the fluid was so saturated with water that it froze

Thanks for the help.

The lines are still connected. When I parked it a few days ago after it started slipping badly the pedal moved just fine.

I don't know if anything could be frozen. I started it up that morning and drove it for about 15 minutes just fine before the clutch started slipping.

I limped it home and parked it and the clutch pedal still moved freely and easily.

It wasn't until this afternoon, three days later, that the pedal became hard to push.

+1 on the line being disconected. Had it happen to a friends Mazda, looked like it was still tight but was less than a half inch off. pushed it back on and worked fine.
Only thing I have seen that will make the pedal feel that way.
