1989 Ranger 66K original miles, Neutral safety switch on Clutch rod needs replacing. Have to Mash the clutch pedal several times to start, or just clicks.
How do I Remove and Replace the switch??
Thanks in advance, I better know ' How To' before I buy it.

Buy the new switch (RockAuto.com for 21.95)

It'll be immediately apparent. Not hard, just upside down, laying on your back work for a few minutes.

Earl43P, thank you, but after I disconnect the clutch rod, how does the switch come off, sorry for a basic question.

try nailing the switch a couple times with some wd-40 and work the pedal to see if the switch may just have some excess dirtyness on its contact points.

also, the part that slides into the main body of the switch has a collar that activates the switch. the collar may or may not be adjustable.

if those two bits of info bring no resolve, the following assumes the unlucky changer of underdash switch is laying on back with right shoulder toward drivers door, left elbow hooked around shifter, and thoracic section of spine is cranked over at a comfortable 89.5 degrees:
the switch is screwed onto a metal plate with the screws going from the right to the left. i couldn't tell what size the head of the screw was cause it's dark out and i couldn't keep a grip on my #^%$&&%$ light. however it did feel like a hex head, a real small one. if i had to get under there i would use a 1/4" drive ratchet as opposed to a (nut- or screw-)driver because of clearance issues.
