I'm trying to remove the clutch master cylinder on my 91 Ranger (2.3 liter, 5 speed) so I can bleed/replace it (for more details, see this thread: http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151193 ). First time doing this. At the moment, I'm stuck trying to remove the line from the master to slave; particularly the quick disconnect fitting at the slave cylinder.

One video I watched said to take a screwdriver and push the white plastic ring forward, then tug on the fitting and it should pop out. Either I'm not doing something right, or I need to tug harder, but it doesn't want to come out. I'm trying to avoid breaking anything.

I'm trying to get this out first before I disconnect everything else at the pedal, because I don't want to get that far and then get stuck here. Should I do that first though?

Here's a picture, in case it makes a difference:

Try pushing the line in then the white sleeve, then pull the line out.
I have the cheap tool, it makes it easier!

Might run out and pick up one of those tools - are they available at a place like AutoZone?

Should be. They come with the parts too. Did you try what i said?

Just got the tool - my local Autozone is about 5 minutes away, and I figured it'd make it easier.

When the white ring is out, the fitting doesn't seem to want to go in at all. I'm sure it's user error. I'm going to go play with it a little more.

Just to verify - I shouldn't have to force this out, correct? It should come off fairly easily one the fitting is loose?

Push the white ring all the way in and then yank on the line. Everything is metal. There's nothing to break

Try removing the MC cap. Maybe there's a vacuum?

I have removed about 5 of them. Never had a issue!

Got it out. Thanks for the help!

That tool helped a lot. $5 at AutoZone, but it wasn't listed on their website. The guy at the store just happened to know what I was talking about.

EDIT: It was getting the plastic ring ALL the way in that finally did it for me... If you can see a sliver of white, it's not in far enough...

EDIT 2: Here's a picture of the tool - I couldn't find it on AutoZone's website, but this is what you want.
