i have a 86 ranger put a 302 and m5od-2 trans out of a full size truck. will the stock clutch master cylinder move the throwout bearing enough to disengage the clutch? what has anyone else done use the stock one or get a master cylinder out of a full size truck? any info or experiences would be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken the F150 used the same master cylinder.

No the F-series uses a completely different master cylinder.

However the '87-92 F-150's use the same slave cylinder as the 1988-92 Ranger
and the '83-87 rangers use the same master cylinder as the '88-92 Rangers.

So, with the aluminum slave cylinder from a, 88-92 Ranger/Explorer/Fseries
AND your existing master cylinder you'd only need the plastic clutch line
from an '88-92 Ranger.

There are two size master cylinders for Rangers--- 3/4" and 7/8" You'd probably want the larger one. I use the 7/8" with my McCleod hydro throwout bearing.

The smaller bore diameter master cylinder was used '93-up

the smaller bore (early) master cylinder used '93-94 will not "play well"
with the early aluminum slave which requires more fluid volume movement
to work correctly.

the Early master cylinder when used with the late (plastic) slave gives a
vary "quick" clutch actuation at the expense of higher pedal effort.

the two master cylinders can easily be distinguished because the early one mounts directly to the firewall.

the '93-94 master is bayonette mounted into a metal "cup" that is bolted to the firewall.

the '95-up master passes through the firewall and is bayonetted (different size) directly into a mounting "Ear" on the pedal support bracket.

The "early" comes in both sizes. And the 7/8" early is made in both aluminum and plastic.

well i ended up buying a 1990 master cylinder for a ranger and the hydraulic line for a 1989 f-150. the line is a little long but it works. my trans sits a farther back than the original one so wasnt sure if the ranger line would be long enough. they didnt ask what size i wanted for the master cylinder so not sure wich one i got, but its plastic. everything seems to work ok but i havent drove it yet. thanks for all the info almost done with the swap.
