i have a loud clunck in the driver side front wheel area i am pointing towards the area of the axle shaft because it sounds way to loud to be a wheel bearings any ideas what this may be?

in what type of situations does it happen at, braking or accelerating or what? if its braking i had that problem and it happened to be my radius arm bushings were worn out, just an idea.

say im going 25 mph and then let off the throttle then it starts clunking with maybe a second or 2 in between the clunks but then if i step on the throttle again it quits? but i doesnt sound anything like the motor maybe a driveshaft? with a bad u joint or maybe a axle im not quite sure

i assume yours is a mid-'90s or newer. if so it is the cv-joint style front driveshaft that is on the driver's side. just like a cv joint in a fwd car it makes popping and clunking noises when they start to go out

cold also be a loose motor mount...the engine torques may be torquing to one side...but I'd go with either a CV joint or maybe even a ball joint...lift the truck if possible and try moving the wheel by hand...see if there is any play in it...and check the cv for excessive play...

the cv axel style didnt start until 98 and it would make a clicking constantly not just sometimes.

i would start with "shaking down" the front end to see if anything is loose. grab the wheel at 3 oclock and 9 oclock and shake back and forth and see if you feel anything loose. if it is loose it could be either a wheel bearing or a inner or outer tie rod. then shake with your hands at 12 and 6 and if that is loose it could be a wheel bearing. to check balljoints on your style you have to put load on the suspension with the wheel in the air aka jack up the front right tire by the control arm and put a pry bar under the wheel and have someone move the wheel up and down and have the other person check to see if the ball joints are shifting around. i would check with that basic easy steps then going on to checking other bushings

thanks for all the info replaced the wheel bearing and cv joint. no more noise
