I have a 1989 ranger shortbox. It has the bucket seats and center console. Very little room behind the seats for anything more than the tiny little 4 or 5" speakers that come stock lol.

First, i was wondering if anyone has done a setup simular to mine before and how? Because the center console goes back behind the seats farther, i am thinking that would negate the option of having the sub with speakers on either side.

What is usually done in tight fits like this? I am thinking i will only be able to go with getting some great 6x9s that put out good bass. But i love bass and, if i can, would definately put in a sub. If i can only do 6x9s, i was thinking of going with the Alpine Type Rs. Which would be best for bass also? And if a sub is a option, where will i fit it and what subs work good in which box?

Also, if anyone knows what speaker sizes would be in my doors that would be great as i will be replacing those as well. All stock sound at the moment. Thanks :)

im obviously too tired right now lol... "1989 Ranger reg cab"... As if the size of my box matters :P Its the STX if that helps any

ok, first of all, alpine makes great stuff, but you wont be happy with those 6x9s, they dont go very low. there clear as day, but not much bass.

id recommend polks in the way of 6x9s, there speakers hit ridiculous lows for a speaker.

and in a regular cab, you can barely squeeze 2 (10) subs back there, id recommend a shallow 10, kicker has a nice line of these that dont need much airspace and dont stick out far.

www.sonicelectronix.com and www.audiosavings.com and www.woofersect.com have great deals on all car audio equipment.

So basically i just wanna go with 4-way 6x9s? I have some truck speakers sitting around that i bought a while back for 20 bucks. They have a 8" sub in each with the tweeter, in a truck box made to fit behind the seats. It will be a tight fit, but it should fit even tho my back wall comes out a bit like a foot and some up the wall. I will use those untill i get new speakers, so i have the time to figure out whats the best to go with.

I am thinking of staying away from getting a sub because it will be very hard to fit, and then there is the cost of the sub/amp/box. This way that money can go to things such as lifts and such instead. So I just want to go with the good door and rear speakers and use them with the kenwood deck i just bought. I had heard great things about the alpine type R 6x9s before, but i think that was all with the matching sub which would explain why the bass wasnt an issue.

Could you find me the polk speakers you had mentioned please? I didnt see any polks in the place i checked

Just because it will handle it doesn't mean it needs to. Those speakers will sound great even without an amp. But if he decides later to add an amp, the speakers are set to go.

either of those are awesome. the more expensive ones hit retarded lows. there insane speakers.

the others are quite impressive as well. either one will set ya good

Thank you. I will probably go with the more expensive ones. So what about my door speakers? I am not completely sure what the size is since i have not looked yet. Polk should have other door sized ones like those 6x9s right?

if you got the cheaper polks, id run these in the door, but they require you to drill a hole to mount the seperate tweeter, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9109_Polk+Audio+db6501+.html

if your afraid to use a seperate tweeter, than run these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9111_Polk+Audio+db651.html

the first ones i had in my last car, and there a beautiful speaker. i didnt get to use them to the fullest cause i had a crappy sony stereo powering them, but a good pioneer, kenwood, or alpine stereo will make them shine.

i also used the second speaker i linked, they didnt have as much bass but were very nice and not too "bright" sounding. they handle bass very well.

Where would i mount the tweeter? I would like to get the more expensive ones, but will i need to get 4 amps for all the speakers if i did this? Maybe if i went with the real good ones behind the seats later on adding amps, then ok ones that will put up with all the power the headunit can put out. Will this work good? I havent installed something like this before and most people i know just get a sub lol. I want the best sound i can get into that small cab, and it looks like i wont be getting a sub. So should i be getting amps and speakers for the doors? WHere will i mount the amps for the doors? Lol thanks

on the 89? anywhere you want. you want them as close to the speaker as possible.

just cut a hole, and mount em up

and you only need a single 4 channel amp that will run the speakers, but you dont even need that.

just get the less expensive speakers and a good stereo, and see if you like it. you can always add an amp later.

but if your afraid to cut holes, just get the polks without the seperate tweeters, those are great speakers.

I see what6 you are saying, but i want the best speakers i can get now when i buy them. Instead of having to upgrade later on. I like having speakers that i know can put up with the abuse and not have to worry about them (i do kind of obsess when i think something might have done something :P).

Also, The tweets... could i find a way to mount them in the upper-part of the door (by the handle)? I have seen this done before in other cars and it looks/ sounds really good, but would i be able to do it without it looking ghetto? lol Like i have said, i've never done a installation so i dont know how everything works. Hell, i dont even really know how the speaker amps work, i just know the sub amps :P What place would be bes to mount the tweet? And how?

For your bottom end, take a look at this powered sub from Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777B8PT/Sound-Ordnance-B-8PT.html?tp=114 . It has stellar reviews, it fits behind the seat of my '89 reg cab, and it's exclusive to Crutchfield. They don't sell cheap crap, and the customer reviews speak volumes. AND it's 200 clams. Worth an investigation.

an open box and/or scratch/dent model will save you 40 or 50 bucks, respectively.

definitely worth it in my opinion.

Isnt this only something like 200 watts? I would need alot more than that lol. Especailly in a vehicle. :/ i havent looked at it very much because im in school atm. Wouldnt getting just those speakers and a amp for them be good bass wise also?
