Hey all,

my 06 ranger sport 4x4 has developed a clicking from the front after I drive it for 30+ miles.

I had it up tonight, test spun both front tires, and the driveline is smooth to the spin.

No clicking or binding at all.

I torsion cranked it last october, and I was wondering if I could have the dreaded cv goin out? (which I dk how, cause a cv usually makes noise when turning).

I replaced the 2 upper control arms tonight, cause a local shop had said it was making noise cause of play. Turns out to be a bunch of crap.

And I recently had the brake system flushed out and new fluid. But it def doesn't seem brake related, cause when I test spun the tires, I never felt any drag against the rotors.

thanks in advance, I hate to throw all kinds of money at this problem.

CV's make a clicking noise when they wear out. Usually they do it all the time though. Check the CV boots for tears, if the grease gets out then they will make noise.

The ball joints are tight. Uppers are brand new. And lowers have 20k on them.
Cv shaft boots are in tact and not leaking. Wheel bearins could be the culprit, but how can I test? I did the "test spin" and felt no play or binding... Maybe I'l just drive it... Til something goes...

Could be a bearing then. I had to put one in my Sport Trac a few months ago. It made noise but there wasn't any play in it.

Did you take a good look the the c/v joint at the transfer case end of the front driveshaft.? I've seen those making a lot of noise if the boot tears and all the grease gets flung out. Just a thought.

Turned out to be a CV shaft.

Had a shop replace them. But I checked out the old ones personally, but not a sign of binding. They did rattle a bit, and cause the steering wheel to bump around a lot on straight aways.

Now, I have a smooth driving machine. After 120K now.
