I just bought a dirt cheap aluminum cap for my Ranger, but it was the wrong color. I went to Menards and had them color match to the gas cap, and then sprayed on a couple of coats. I used exterior house paint because I wanted to keep this as cheap as possible. That being said, I also don’t want all my work to go down the drain, which brings me to my question: should I spend the time and money to put clear coat on it, or will it be fine as is? I’ve never done anything like this before, so all help is appreciated.

I'm not sure that clear coat would be compatible with house paint. :dunno:

Hmm. Thanks for the reply. I don’t have any idea either. The guy I bought it from had painted it white, but it was flaming off badly, which is why I wondered about some kind of protective coating on my paint job.
