Im not sure who I pissed off. I had a stroke and doing stuff is hard. I havent drove my ranger for about 1-1 1/2 years. I had started getting parts together to swap to a 302/c4, then had the stroke. The city cop came by and gave me a paper saying I was in violation of abandon, inoperable vehicles. Now it does not run but as soon as they see it run and drive they will leave me alone. If I want to pay 25. a month to leave it is okay. I have tires in the back of it but nothing else is wrong with it. I got a sticker for it its had insurance on it the whole time. I hate electric work so Im going to tow it to someone to fix it. I said If I buy a metal garage and keep it in there is that ok. It would be fine but not now because we started this. Anyone every heard of this kind of bullshit... The city has a hard on for me.

I've hear of it before. We have an ordinance like that here. It usually takes a neighbor turning you in for it to happen unless its on the street and glaringly obvious to a passing cop.

Being Illinois... it doesn't surprise me.

My guess is that it was probably a neighbor that complained. If it is in violation of your local ordinance... now you have trouble until it's legal.

Here i n Fishers IN, you have to have it currently registered and in your driveway if it is outside. you can only park on the street for a week and then it is in violation, but usually it is only a ticked off neighbor that will get anything done about it. but if it is in your drive and all four tires have air in them and the plates are current, you are good :) and even if the tires are flat that is more of an HOA or eyesore issue.

if it is in a building I don’t see why it is their concern....

Pay me in clam chowdah, I'll come live in it and anytime a cop drives by I'll sit up and make vroom vroom noises like I'm on my way to work in my perfectly functional vehicle.

Don't get me started. I am also going thru similar bull#@it

I'm glad I live in the country. I have a nice little are where I keep my toys and junk. Can't even see it unless you are looking for it.

That's a bummer. I agree that it was probably a neighbor. Got any you don't like or any that don't like you? So they just need to see it running and driving? Are you able to cover it with a big tarp? I say if it's covered then what's the issue? If you burn firewood you could stack wood around it and then cover it with a tarp and just say you got rid of the truck and that's your firewood. On a more serious note, do you have any friends that could hold the truck for you until the cops leave you alone or maybe a good friend just to help build that truck up.

If this is a carb 302... a fuel line... a couple jumper wires and a screw driver you could probably have it running enough to move it around.

I don't have a lot of time... but I live in Plano. How far are you from there?

As Uncle Gump said it must be a Illinois thing, I live in Zion up in the Northeast corner and the city says has to have a current plate, city sticker and be moved regularly. I have the one in the picture for sale and no city sticker or current plate but I do start it and move it a couple times a month. I do have the advantage, my neighbor is related and works for a business in town and has a lot more stuff in his yard. You would thing the city he lives in would give him a little slack being a veteran that just had a stroke?? WTF!

It still has the 2.3 in it the wire to the crank sensor burned so far its problem is in the same area. I tried chasing the ground with the harbor freight tool. It stops when I get to the spot. I was working my way down the harness and it gotreal cold was working 65 hours a week cant get it in the garage for a couple of reasons. To tall and garage is full of parts for it and old motorcycle and parts for it. I was going to buy a metal building and put it in but the cop said nope. I guessing I have a tow bar magnetic taillights and a dodge 1500. I will drop the drive shaft and pull to a mechanic that can get the wires right. Once the cop sees it run he said he would leave me alone. I'm thinking a portable garage 16x20 if I can get in in if not metal car port garage. drive it in and start the swap. That is why Im wanting a carbed engine EFI has to much crap. Thanks for the offer Uncle Gump, but I think you are a long way from me. If you drove down 39 to bloomington I'm about 45 min south on 51. I may just pay the 25 for a month then that will give me time to try something.

Switching from efi to carb introduces a lot more crap to deal with...

Nope I have everything including a complete wiring harness, electric fuel pump, new gauges.

Well I paid the city to let me keep my ranger for 90 days. I am going to start tomorrow removing the 2.3 Hopefully the weather will warm up so I can paint the engine compartment. Its snowing the temp has dropped to 10. It going to rain in a couple of days so? Just have to wait a bit. lol weather changes faster and more often than my wifes mind...
