Chevy guys

The only Ford thats pissed me off has been my Dads '97 F-150. It sits a lot, it only has 90k miles, and its rotted to hell, every year we have to do a couple hundred dollars in repairs to it, it has really turned me off to that body style truck.

The key part of that is "97". It was the first year of a major redesign. My dad had a 97 with the 4.6 and manual trans and t-case. It was a great truck, but the vac actuator on the front axle was always broken.

The trans wasn't fun to take out of that body either. You can't really take the transfer case out, and the trans is easiest removed by going straight back and then tipping the front down and slipping under the engine. Good luck doing that on the floor. I can barely do it on a lift!!

nope. just tired of Chevy guys having to rip on others that drive other makes because their money pit makes their penises feel small.

I seen people of every breed like that. The worst I have actually ran into was actually a "Ford guy" ripping on his brother a "Dodge guy" It was hidious, I feel that I even as a bit of a Ford guy myself I showed great restraint by not busting the little bugger in the mouth. I do enjoy a little ribbing now and again but IMO he was going WAY over the top and just wouldn't shut up about it.

GM guys do it more but it seems they do it so much amongst themselves so much they don't know how to take a well placed volley or three from the other side of the fence.

John Deere vs IH is rather funny too.

I don't have a problem with GM personally, dad always had Chevy pickups/cars as I was growing up and liked them.

My brother's '97 has been pretty good, a couple sensors, wheel bearings and he had to rebuild the rear diff (8.8 was far from a new design) Aside from the rear axle IMO it has all been older higher milage stuff. When he rebuilt the rear last fall he regeared it, and the edge of the oilpan was just moist with seapage so while the axle was down he popped a new gasket it. With 140k miles there was no sludge in the bottom of that 4.6 and the bores still had crosshatch... looked like it was just put together.

Fords can become a massive time/money pits too though, I can personally vouch for that. My Ranger has been since about week two, someday I am going to have this thing beat though :icon_thumby:

your Ranger is an 85, not a 2003.... or in my case a 2001 with less than 73,XXX miles. My Ford OTH ...... All normal maintenance and 1 major repair ..... has a recent Raptor rebuilt transmission.

I got it in 2000, which computes to a '97 for a fair comparison, only four years off of your '01.

Most of what I fixed happened in the first couple years when I depended on it (laugh) to get to high school. After that repairs were skimpy because the original powertrain was junk and in day to day life it really didn't matter if it existed... just the minimal to keep it moving so I wouldn't lose interest in it. I think to date I have put 15k miles on it in a little over 11 years.

Then when time, money and a place to do it lined up I ripped the guts out, spit down the hole and inserted better guts.

My attempt at a point was, they all make good ones and they all make bad ones. You can't run out and buy brand X thinking it will be perfect just because it is brand X. Then research and a whole lotta dumb luck comes into play.

I know a couple people like that, all they do is brag about how chevy is superior in all ways, and always give me shit for driving a Ford, and my brother for driving a Jeep, when one for the past 3-4 years has only driven fords, and the other drove a geo metro (pre-gm ownership).

No car company is perfect, they all have their problems. I have 2 B2's that dont run, my brother has an econoline that is falling apart, but he also has a DD cherokee that is equally falling apart. We just took a Chevy 1500 to the junk yard 1 year ago because the tranny and engine both crapped out at 190k miles.

As for the 97, my dad has a 2wd 5.4 auto f15. With 272k miles on it, it is in decent condition, the only rust is on the rear wheel wells. It burns some oil but will still haul ass if needed.

The next time they give you shit, remind them who had to take bailout money and who didn't :icon_thumby:

It's the nature of the beast. You can go to any GM, Chrysler forum and find people saying the exact same shit about "ford people". It has been this way and will continue to be this way as long as there is more then one car manufacture. IMO

Side note: If a person is a jerk, what they drive will not change that fact.

I'm not sure, but I almost bought a toyota or chevy INSTEAD of a ford. My first truck was a constant money pit, a 97 4.0L 4x4 5 speed ranger. but i'm not allowed to complain about that one, got it for $725 as is etc...the drivetrain never gave me issues just a ton of other misc stuff...was working on it monthly and it left me stranded twice. SO I sell it once i got out of high school and got a job, bought a used '07 F150 with pretty low mileage for the year. Alternator took a shit on me at 50k and left me stranded on the road. (40 min drive to work and back) I had to change ball joints at 40k, axle seal at 40k, i couldn't believe i had to dump money into a 4 year old truck with such low miles. Ford did not cover ANY of it. And i'm not even hard on my vehicles.

This new ranger I just bought had 18 miles on it when i picked it up. Fords last chance with me, TBH. I better not have to put a penny into this thing besides preventative maintnence for at least 100k miles. I will say however, the powertrain on these trucks never gave me issues, ever, it was always other shit.

yeah for purposes of argument here..... YOUR CAR FROM HIGHSCHOOL WILL ALWAYS BE A MONEY PIT.....

I am not talking about highschool kids comparing $500 cars an arguing about which is superior..... I have had my share of POS fords, toyotas, chevys, jeeps ...... all from highschool..... thats not what my bitch is about.

I am talking about die hard chevy guys (in this case, this guy is in his 40's with a 2003 sivlerado) that are always replacing something bragging about how their crappy POS chevy is superior to everything. I have had a newer Chevy, and it felt cheap and icky inside.... kinda like being with a $50 truckstop hooker ..............

i own both ford and chevy and i know one thing my s10 parts are cheaper then my ranger parts but i have yet to drive it yet so i dont know how well it will take my daily beatings lol.
id much rather have something older thats paid off more then a 2011 made from plastic that parts cost a pay check to fix and a new tool to fix it with.

The newer design silverados I actually really like the interior on, and they drive nice. But they don't have the Get up and go like the F150s or the balls when towing.

I'll take my 2011, thank you. Its got a warranty and its a bit more reliable than my 97 was for my drive to work, which is 40 mins on a good day. I was sick of crawling around under my truck for 3 years straight and being stranded mid winter at 430am on my drive home. Not to mention working on other peoples vehicles constantly leaves me even less ambitious to fix my own. I wanna get in, start and go and not worry about anything. to each their own I suppose. I will admit that i would KILL for a early to mid 80s chevy K20 or Ford with the 4.9 or 6.9.

it's just some sort of sickness i guess. i think you're asking the wrong crowd. all of us here have an IQ that is at least triple our shoe size, so we know to stay away from chebbys.

when my buddies used to make fun of my ford in high school, i found it was easy to shut them up by changing the subject and talking shit about something that really pressed a nerve with them. for example, how their parents were divorced, having "relations" with their girlfriends, etc., etc., etc. it may be a low blow, but i got tired of hearing it and if you're gonna talk shit ALL the time, expect to have shit talked back to you. especially when your only argument was the fact that i drove a ford.

To scale your car is nearly same age as mine when I got it, with your logic I would consider dumping it at the earliest oppertunity before the thing falls in a pile in the next couple years. It is already old enough to be high school car bait, so you have been lucky so far.

+1

They do have a really nice interior (I rank them only second to Ford)... I really don't like how they look like they have that stupid grin on the grille.

I also chuckle how on E85 now the 5.3 can finally match a '99 2v 5.4 for torque although at a higher RPM.

Yeah for some reason Chevy guys give the most crap and get the most offended when you give them shit, must be a guilty conscience. I play the Ford guy for this very reason, i love pissing ignorant people off. I'm not brand biased except against chevy (i have one, i don't change the oil in it because i change the motors just as frequently) I can respect a good vehicle be it Dodge, Ford, Mazda, Honda, Nissan.... I don't car as long as it's good.

I actually like Chevy ALOT better than dodge/chrysler. There isn't a dodge for sale in my area that has the original trans. And a few on craigslist have new motors when the originals didn't even have 100k on them.

I would like to point out that most high school cars become such by lack of care by a previous owner, thus making them crappy and worth less. Generally more so than by simply aging into it. My truck aged into it because my dad had the foresight to realize that he'd spend more to buy me something when I started driving than he'd get by trading it in.
