Is anybody running a cherry bomb turbo muffler? Im looking at that as my main option mainly because of the price... do they sound nice and do they make decent gains due to the less restrictiveness of the smaller muffler?

In my opinion cherry bombs do not belong on a small displacement engine. I have a 86 with 2.3 and I had one on it for awhile. It was noisey and not a v8 noisey it was just annoyingly load. As far as power gains don't know as I never had another style muffler on it. If anyone knows how to make a 4cyl have a low rumble like v8s I would be interested but havent heard one yet.

I bought one for the same reason once...found it to be too loud also...don't remember any HP gains from it because I had it on and took it off the same day...went back and bought the $40 stock muffler...

Main reason I bought it though was I just blew off a brand new $40 stock muffler because my distributor broke and due to not starting the gas just filled up inside the muffler...

It would have been interesting to hear that one blow up too though...

Got one on my 2.9 right now. Sounds great....and its way too loud and will be coming off. Ive heard them on 4 bangers, and they sounds awful....and way too loud.

They sound like crap. It's a four cylinder, you don't want to hear it.

I have tried many different mufflers on my Mustangs with 2.3Ls. The only time I liked the Cherry Bomb with a 2.3L is when it's used with a cat and resonator. Then it's not too loud and has a deeper tone. I have another 2.3L with no cat or resonator and a Turbo muffler and it's a little too loud and not deep enough sounding. On my Ranger I went with a Dynomax cat back exhaust and it has a very nice deep tone for a four cylinder at idle, when driving it's almost as quiet as the stock exhaust. It wasn't much of a power gain but the sound is very nice. Even if you just used the Dynomax muffler and not the whole cat back exhaust I think you would still get an improvement over stock.

Long ago on the 2.0 72 Pinto of mine I had one of damn things on it, took it off when I was at the dragstrip (unbolted it from the header) went quicker, and faster without it. Put a 2 1/2" exhaust on it with a good turbo muffler behind the rear axle, ran almost as good as a open header.
