Looking into a new exhaust for my 4.0 and im thinking either a gibson dual cat-back or a cherry bomb vortex dual cat-back. Both are about the same price so im just wondering what one would be louder and have a deeper tone?

the gibson has a low tone sounds good but quiet, where as the cherry bombs i have heard are loud but less of deep tone and more of a weed wacker

I don't know about the dual outlet but I have the Gibson single. Sounds great, not too loud and it fit like a glove.

Just put on a thrush turbo on a '94, removed the CAT and used 2 1/2" pipe. Low tone, not loud, motor revs quicker. Unlike stock you can hear it, but not too much. :icon_welder:

Flow masters! Craigslist $40.00 all day long!!!!!

so for the gibson would the straight back design be better or out to the sides behind the tires? and do they both fit with the trailer hitch?

id say gibson, i have the dual extreme. . . the one that exits one behind each tire on my 02 4.0sohc, it sounds pretty good, fits great and is wearing well, been on for almost 2 years. ive heard the cherrybombs are good too but considerably louder as they wear cuz the vortex is a fiberglass packed muffler where as the gibson is pretty much straight thru no packing.

and cant speak for the straight back one but they both are supposed to fit around the hitch and spare tire, i know mine did (dual extreme) i believe the systems are the same except for the last piece of piping which either goes straight back or out at a right angle.

The one that exits under the rear bumper hits the hitch and looks quite stupid IMHO.

I had a cherry bomb on my old 1996 2.3 Ranger, at that time i was young and just wanted noise, it did the trick. And for $40 I was pretty content. they rust out after a while though, maybe 6 years or so untill it's tinfoil.
