Checking transmission out of truck.

So, I just bought a 92 ford ranger Stx 4.0 4x4. I was having issues getting in gears. Mainly 1st and reverse. But it eventually started to effect all gears. Once I got driving it would be fine. So I bought all new clutch parts including, slave, master and flywheel. The fingers have a little wear all around the tips. But the rest of the old clutch doesn't look too bad. I mainly just want to man sure that there is not a tranny problem before I put it back in. Is there a way to check it personally with it out of the vehicle? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Have you checked the transmission fluid? If it's good or is even full? That's where I'd look first. Shifting problems tends to just be a fluid or lack of fluid problems

Transmission fluid is full I checked it before I pulled it out. Seems fine in color also. Could the see any metal shavings. I haven't drained it yet to see ja Theres metal in it though. Also before I took it out I drained the master cylinder and flushed with fluid. Filled it back up and bled it forever. Still didn't do anything.
