changing my 2.3 to a 2.2 diesel

ok well it doesnt have the "hump" like the picture. but my pan bolts are like the c4-c5 and all the other pan bolts have way more....

what the hell?

The C3 has 13 bolts on the pan, while the C4 & C5 have 11 bolts on the pan, there are tons of C4's & C5's without the hump on the pan, the trans could have swapped out with a reman/rebuilt tranny hence the no "hump", just because it doesn't have hump doesn't mean it isn't a C4/C5.

Here's a pic of the dual side draft weber setup for the 2.3.

They also have a dual down draft weber setup, but I haven't found a picture of it yet, but I did find a pic of the intake though.

Looking at the pics you took of the pan it's alot deeper looking than a C3 pan. Another check to see if the trans is a C4/C5 is to look right behind the shifter arm on the side of the trans there should be stamped steel cover with 4 bolts holding it on, the is also another cover on the other side right behind the bellhousing that is cast aluminum and is also held on by 4 bolts, if it has those 2 covers with 4 bolts on each one it's a C4/C5 trans.

hmm ok, well ill go check that tomorrow then, its gettin to cold outside! concrete is freezing! lol

that setup looks sweet man! im looking them up right now. how much quicker was it?

but man that turbo sounds so bad!!! and looks sweet

$100 for the manifold. if i was to do this, it would still help to maybe do bigger valves, pistons, cam... etc etc?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...uck_Parts_Accessories?_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

That intake is for the german 2.0 that came in 71-73 & some 74 ford pinto's, it's totally different than the 2.3. My 72 pinto with the german 2.0 I had the engine bored .030" over forged pistons (just incase if wanted to add nitrous later), 10.5:1 compression, dual 45 dcoe side draft webers, ported, and polished head (exhaust side only, the stock intake ports were allready too big), bigger stainless steel valves with the smaller race stems, 5 angle valve job, a cam with .544" lift (stock was .400" lift), the proper springs, retainers, and locks, a headman header with 1 5/8" primaries 36" long, 3" collector, 2 1/2" pipe with thrush turbo muffler.:D:3gears:

BUT yours was manual? (how quick was it? i really wanna kno)

i want to keep mine automatic, im either gonna do this or the turbo. if i can find a car with the motor then im going that route FOR SURE!

Mine originally had a C4 but I put a 4-speed in it when the good engine went in, never ran it at the crappy drag strip we had at the time (the rebar was sticking through the concrete in the water box in some places, wrong place = cut tire), with the quiet exhaust I had on it people swore I had a V8 in it till I popped the hood.:D

hmmm. well crap, theres too many freakin options. i still like the turbo idea . . .

Most ford 4wds have the lump in the pan (regardless of model), So that when climbing a hill the pickup should still be in fluid. The 2wd doesn't have the lump.
You need to decide what route you want to take. Go the the "technical library" and read up there. Go to the parts websites that are listed there. They can also help you get the right parts once you've decided for sure which way you want to go.
As far as the Turbo questions go, Make a new post in the "forced induction" forum to get the answers you need there.
If you want to stay Naturally aspirated and make your truck more fun to drive, I can help you. With the right parts and machine work you can get 200hp out of it and still be somewhat street driveable.

theres the man you wanna talk to :yahoo:

maybe we should talk to jim about correcting the transmission identification page in the tech library...

How about this in your truck?

I've never paid much attention to what trans would be in a 2wd, 4cyl Ranger. As far as I knew the c5 was the only auto trans used in '83-'84. Every 4cyl Ranger I've ever worked on was a stick. Too many hills around here.:dunno:

and whats this?

ok heres the deal. i found a few turbo coupes about 200 - 200 miles from here, i can go pick them up for around $500. (harness computer and all)
now id rather an automatic. now that i know i can get a turbocoupe thats probably what ill want to do. i will go and post in the Forced Induction though, thanks

or while im building the 2.3turbo (with some help and tips from you on which parts, sizes and all in the rebuild) i can tune up my carbed 2.3 for now. im just afraid of having to mess with the carb too often
