Changed Fuel Filter Now wont start

I have a 1986 Ford Ranger. 2.9l v6 4x4

After getting on the road, the truck started to act funny and almost stall like when driving sometimes. Occasionally wouldn't start.

So i decided to changer the fuel filter. I have the black canister type of filter, After changing the filter it wont start. and if it does it wont run long until it dies again.

The new filter had a larger rubber piece on top so i tried switching back to the old filter, but still wouldn't run properly.

Not sure what happened, any help appreciated. Thanks

I think you just changed the sediment trap. There is at least 2 more filters, one after the high pressure pump, and the other on the pump in the tank. Sound like the high pressure pump is out, or your anti collision switch is tripped. Check for pressure at the shrader valve on the fuel rail -- Hope this helps been there

Yes, I would confirm if Both Fuel pumps are working.

Ford EFI systems turn on the fuel pump for 2 seconds when key is first turned on.
have someone turn on the key while you listen or feel the high pressure pump in the frame rail near the filter.

Also listen for the in tank low pressure pump

I agree, it kind sounds like either the HP fuel pump or the oxygen sensor have given up the ghost. You changed the sediment trap. Your fuel filter is up near the engine. If you lay under the driver's door and follow the frame forward you will find it.
