Center Console Build

not sure but did you check the placement of your subs an your seats? i built my box sorta like this outta glass an can fit only a 10 an bigger i wouldnt be able to put seats back all the way

more updates! more updates! How is the console coming?

Sorry - I am back in San Antonio for a few days, but I will have over the holiday to get some more work done.

I did get more layers on the outside and pulled the plug. It is a bit flimsy right now, but I am going to get some more mat/woven glass and build up the inside with some baffles/supports. Sorry no pics, I will try to get some when I get home.

After I pulled my plug out I trimmed the lower edge and did a test fit. SO far the front is too high and the back edge is too short - LOL. I will fix that as I begin to build up the layers and make it thicker. My sub sits in between the seats but in front of them instead of behind.

Stay tuned . . .

UPDATE WITH PICTURES

OK today I trimmed the lower edges, the shifter opening, the speaker opening and the cup holders holes. Then I began adding some more layers of glass in certain areas to add strength and thickness inside the sub area. You can also see where I added the baffle for the sub and the switch mounting plate.

I have more work to do before I begin laying in the filler on the exterior. But I will try to shoot more pics as I make progress.

It is covered on the sub side with fiberglass, so that adds additional strength to it. Besides I won't be entering any sound offs - LOL.

I used a 1/4 inch thick board on the back of my box, and when there is a decent amount of bass the board vibrates real loud.

Just curious - is your fiberglassed or only MDF? I just used the board to lay up the fiberglass, see my next post for additional pictures. I am pretty sure there will be no movement of the board - I could be wrong - but I have enough layers of fiberglass on the inside that the boards are no longer necessary.

Update in next post . . .

Almost Done

:yahoo:

Getting closer - I got a lot done in the last couple days so without ado here are some pics with descriptions

Test fit in the truck - yes it is supposed to be that far forward - I will have to be careful when tilting the seats forward or no tilting.

I didn't put glass over it,so i guess yours should be a bit stiffer

No pics for this update, but tonight I laid on a milkshake coat (resin and filler mix) and sanded that down. Then I put on a thin thin layer of glazing putty to fill scratches and pin holes. I am hoping to have that sanded to 220 or 320 tomorrow night and then another couple coats of primer. If all of that comes out good I will have it painted this weekend.

Not yet, I am still trying to decide on what color and if I will incorporate any design features like stripes or something. Plus I am out of town most of this week and then next week I leave for 2 weeks.
