Center Console Build

Thanks man, I just like to do a lot of different things.

"tooting own horn" I am currently trying to build a 5 leg base for my office chair out of oak. My plastic one broke, this one should be stronger - LOL

Hazmat,

This looks great. I would like to put this all together on one page and put it in our upcoming Winter Edition of our On-Line Magazine.

Can you list the materials with their product names that you're using.

Also, you mentioned...

The foam is only a "plug" so to speak. After I lay on the glass and it cures the foam part will get destroyed. Baffles will be added to enclose the speaker end.

Will you post up more about any reinforcing you do when you remove the foam and what you coated the whole thing with (if any) so the fiberglass would release from it?

Thanks!

Sure, I will put together a PDF version that I can send to you.

Thanks . . .

Yeah man good job i can see thats a lot of work but i think im inspired to put buckets (intsead of the 60/40) in my truck and make a center console.

Before laying the fiberglass I just covered the entire plug with blue painters tape. The tape pulled off of the plug and I had to remove most of it from the inside of the shell. Some tape got embedded into the resin and had to stay, but not a major concern since it will not ever be seen.
Mold release can be applied some different types are Mold Release Wax and I have seen guys spray glue some aluminum foil to the surface to be glassed and the applied some wax to the foil.
I will add more details in the PDF "How-To"

whats the air space on that box

Honestly I have no idea. I did put a section of 1" PVC tubing through the baffle which can act as a port. I used it to pass the wires into the box.

i would seal that tube ports sound like ass if not done pefectalty

It sounds really good, I put in a Bass Mechanix CD and she hit hard but sounds good. The only thing I have to correct so far, is some kind of gasket or seal around the speaker, the air pressure inside pushes past the speaker/box edge and whistles - LOL. I may have to try and get a small vid/sound clip with my digi cam. I am on the road again so it may be a while before I can work on it some more. So far everything seems to fit well in the truck and I love the size and location of it.
Anyone out there any good at sewing?:icon_confused: I need a boot for my shifter LOL. Found a site that will make one for $100 shipped in leather.

Awesome. It will be next week before I can get the measurements. Thanks

Thanks!

Materials Used

Chop Mat - I used 2 different types: Evercoat Sea-Mat and Bondo Chopped Strand Mat (CSM).

Resin: 2 types also: Bondo FG Resin and US Composites B-440 Layup Resin (Awesome)

Filler: Dyna-Tron de-Lite Gold Filler - Not as good as Rage Gold by Evercoat - but better than Bondo Pink Body Filler

I also used some Bondo brand Woven Fiberglass Tape (2" wide) for reinforcement in certain areas. The woven strands are stronger than CSM.

It will be a week or so until I can get some work done to the console, so stay tuned, when I get more done I will post . . .

to figure out your airspace take some packing peanuts in a 12x12x12 box or 1728 box lxwxh 1728 is a perfect cube.. so its 1 cube of air.. the fill your console then take what you have an put them in a box an measure how much peanuts were used to figure out the internal airspace.. theirs other ways but i like this ..
