Yeah thanks lil blue. I knew it was s something. Now get this my ex, (my daughters mother), called dcf (child protection services) on me, and they came over tonight. Well I had no warning on it, and had my pistol on top of the fridge, my small 20 gauge above the front door, my 12 gauge in my closet, and mt 44 mag in my night stand, all loaded, but none in the chamber, and my daughter is 2 1/2, so she cannot reach them. Now this woman had the gall of calling the sheriffs office on me when she walked in the door saying I cannot own guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because I have a child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the deputy got there he called her stupid and left, but now she wants to take me to court to get my daughter taken away........ i'll be on the phone with the NRA early in the morning, i'm so sick, mt stomach is in knots. It was everything I could do not to hit this woman. My dad showed up 'cause I called him and she called the dupty back cause she felt threatened by him.......

I've heard a lot of horror stories about that child services lately, it's a real sad state of affairs when there's a government agency that can tell you what you can an can't do around a child. And I think that's really petty of your ex to do that to you... Best of luck with it all man!!

Yep, deff a good motto to live by. Only lunatics get guns and pray for the chance to use them, most people would rather have it an not need it, but should the need arise...

I've also heard that at least part of the reason why Japan didn't try to invade the US during WWII was because the citizens here are allowed to own firearms and they knew that if they invaded, they wouldn't just be fighting the military, they'd be fighting everyone.

And think from the criminal's perspective (and usually wars between nations are started over something that amounts to not much more than armed robbery writ large), if you're a criminal, would you rather mug someone or break into their home if you know they're unarmed? Or if you knew that there was a good chance they'd stick a gun in your face an ask a question? Most criminals prefer unarmed victims...

You can conceal carry in Illinois on your own property, no permit required(just a valid FOID card)

I carry concealed all the time in Illinois and every other state that I go to and not one problem........oh wait maybe it's the job I have.

Hey man, FYI I had to leave Florida for that exact reason. The lady that investigated me Didnt say nothing about my guns, but I had them locked ina gun case. She did however say that I had a bad attitude andiwthout telling my wife or me, she mand her supervisor made a move to have me removed from the home. The complaint was from a hospital about a bruise the size of a dime on my kids butt from an acccident he had. And a handprint from roughhousing. Even when I explained it and My landlord try to call her to stand up for us, she blew of my landlord and didnt talk to any of our family about how I treat my kids, just moved to have me removed. Florida is 0 tolerance state and completely stupid shyt f*cked up. This is why I had to move outta state. The woman that run things in the florida DCF system are the most liberal, bra burning, tree huggin, "dont ever discipline your kids because your an idiot" women that I have ever seen. They have no respect for the family whatsoever. Thats why thye changed it from HRS to DCF. BEcause the Home wRecking Service title had caught on to bad and they were trying to change their image. Didnt work, Bitches still f*ckin up families. Keep your guns and document everything and stand ebfore the judge with ALL your family and friends.

Illinois, it is illegal to drive in the state with the gun anywhere but unloaded in the trunk.

is get a restraining order against her.

why? because that's HER probable next step and IF that happens the
cops will come looking for your guns.

so take action to head her off.

any unsubstanciated claim by her can cause you no end of grief
for years, even decades.

Spend as much time talking to deputies about her "threats" and
erratic behavior as possible, with an eye to calling them as witnesses
later and trust me, you will

she is probably angling for custody as a way to extract more child
support from you.

Also technically you SHOULD keep your firearms more safely than you are
SOME would take issue with having several loaded firearms at hand.

Put the shotgun behind the door on a rack over the door

Even if it hurts get a cheap gunsafe from Walmart and keep most
of them locked up, because as things stand now someone could
break in and steal them all.

You might want to consider keeping one or two at your dad's house
That way if she does act first and the police come lookinf for your
firearms they don't get them all. and whatever they don't get are
far easier to get back.

Years ago in NJ I had a rifle and a handgun STOLEN.

I dont know what job you have, but for the average civilian its illegal to cross state lines with a gun wihtout a permit.

With a concealed firearm mabey, but in interstate travel
according to the Gun Owners Protection Act of 1985 when traveling from one state to another you only need to meet the legal standard required bt the stricter of the states you are traveling to and from, the laws of the states in between are legally irrelevant.

That won't help you when dealing with an officer in some state like Illinois.

And Cops in general may know some laws very well, but in general
do far worse than the average gun owners when asked to interpret the relevant laws about firearms.

As a sterling example look at the laws about Hollowpoint Bullets in NJ.

Some will tell you they are "illegal" when they are only illegal IF something else you did with the firearm was illegal
There is an exception clause at the top of the section of the state law that NOBODY ever reads.

i drive with a gun in my exploder everywhere i go.....this day and age with all these crazy nuts you got running around shooting people. i have a right to protect myself and my family ANYWHERE i go, if that means it's a crime then arrest me, still wont change my mind or make me stop carrying a gun.

i have a gun safe at my house that i keep the rest locked up in, but they arent far away should the need arise to need one.

on a side note, i'm not against obama making it harder for some people to get guns. i know the constitution says we have a right to have them, but that was written 200+ years ago. different times and different culture if you ask me. we live in a much more violent society these days and i think our laws need to change as our culture changes. say what you want, thats just my two cents

You MUST read that in Context of the definition of "Militia"
at the time, not the modern (very different) definition.

the definition codified in federal code was "All Citizens between the ages of 16 and 60 WHO CAN PROVIDE THEIR OWN ARMS"


Handguns are second best in a lethal encounter, but they have one virtue, because they are compact and light weight you are more likely to have it with you when you need it.

You won't often need a gun, infact stastically you will
never need one, but when you do you will need it REAL BAD.

OTOH if I were looking for trouble a handgun wouldn't
be the tool of choice, a pump shotgun or a semiautomatic rifle would be...

Trust the government. I went to a NRA certified training class when I was about 10, then again about 1 yr ago. Also I got my hunter safety card about a year ago i guess, and have been to countless gun safety classes, and have all the certificates to prove it. Well, I decided I wanted to get my CCW so I don't have to wait 3 days for a handgun and the added security of not having to have my gun unloaded plus 3 steps from firing to be legal. Well, when I went into the sheriffs office to get my prints done, I was treated as a criminal, and charged accordingly. Then After the $45 to get my prints it's $75 for the processing fee. So then I fill out the app and with the print card send it in. one and a half month later I get a letter saying my safety certificate isn't good enough. So I send 'em all in, a copy of all 75 of them. Heh, another one and a half month later I receive my CCW with a snide letter about all the certificates I send in.......

my stock response for this is simple...
