just wonderd if anyone knew of any real cheap cats

I got a cheap cat ... $25. ~10 dia, 15lbs, gray in color, and will jump in your lap when you least expect it.

I started to go cheap cat but when I looked at all the options and wanting the best for power not so much looks and absolutly not considering sound, I went with a quality cat. No muffler and a short turnout in front of r/rear wheel with chrome balonga slice end.

Best thing I could have ever done, looks good, sounds good(not too loud),not too expensive, long lifespan and actually get compliments from non-ranger owners on the sound and the look.

BTW did I mention the convenience of being to install this short system on the exsisting hanger mounts and frame?:)

im not to conserned about performance i just want a cheap cat that will replace my stock one and give it a little more flow

unless its plugged (a possibility with older, high mileage trucks), the stock cat flows more air than your stock engine could ever consider producing.

Well,s**t, cut a piece of straight pipe clamp it in place and rely on your computer to adjust for the deterioration your setting your engine up for and drive it until you need a new engine.

Cost is a little more in the long run, but you will get the pleasure of beating the system....

to death

it is illegal to not have a cat in pa and i might just get a stock one from the junk yard and i possibly will make a homeade intake for it

actually its illegal anywhere in the united states to tamper with a vehicles original emissions equipment, this includes removing the cat on a vehicle originally equipped with one. its a FEDERAL law and is punishable by a hefty fine.

if it were me, i would test the cat before going any further (you need to test exhaust back pressure at an 02 sensor bung). IF the cat is bad, then replace it with a NEW one. its too likely that you'll get another bad one if you buy from the junkyard, plus you wont save much green this way as cat converters dont really depriciate in value (they can be recycled for $60-70 a pop).

and as for the intake, i hate to shoot you down again, but your factory intake is already a true cold air intake and is more than sufficient for your engines needs. strapping a K&N cone filter to the end of the intake tube is likely to cost you performance, not add to it.

well i need a new cat anyway cuz i have already had to weld it a couple of times and as for the intake all i have to do is get a k and n filter and put it in the box and i already knew that it was a cold air intake

When you guys buy new cats, how do you by pass the speacial ford flange coming off of the Y-pipe? to replace my stock cat was way to expensive for me and my dad. its like a double-in-line cat like thing, so i just had the exhaust guy cut the cat in half at the middle linkage pipe. and thats failing rater quickly from getting holes and just plain old age.

cut the flange off the old cat and weld in onto the new one. if done properly it should outlast the new cat...
