IMO, any vehicle that has been maintained is a good vehicle. That being said, service centers that report to carfax can help make that decision. Individuals that says they have all maintenance records, you need to look at all records to see if they match the vehicle. IMO a receipt from an autoparts store for oil does not count.

Over the many years of having vehicles, the ones I took my time to look for a good daily or vehicle for kids turned out to be great vehicles and inexpensive. Set your limit as you have done and keep to it.
Carfax isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Seen a lot of “clean Carfax, one owner“ cars that half the body panels have been replaced or repainted.

This is the key phrase from the post I got slammed for: Every vehicle has it's faults.
If Ford or GM sold a truck that had structural frame rot in 6 years, and the problem started in the 1995 model year but didn't get corrected until 2009, Consumer Reports wouldn't be singing their praises.
If Ford or GM sold vehicles that they documented drivers being killed by airbag deployments in 2001 and didn't issue a recall until 2014 when NHTSA forced it, the CEO would be hanging in front of the court house.
If Ford or GM engineered an emissions cheat device into their vehicles for years before getting caught, the CEO would be in jail and the company would be forced out of business.
Every vehicle has it's faults and I've never swallowed the foreign good- American bad myth. I always tried to do a good job at work and the vast majority of tech who worked for me did, too. I don't assume anyone else goes to work to turn out garbage.
Uh, the Rangers are very prone to structural frame rot and nobody forced Ford to replace the frames like Toyota did…

Bingo.

Same frame manufacturer, same rustawaynium, but Toyota recalled, and Ford did not.

I was talking maintenance. Not accidents.

Not as bad as toyota.

IIRC it was a manufacturing defect from the vender that built some but not all of their frames.

Toyota has always struggled with rust, most of their market doesn't deal with road treatments. Especially in the beginning it wast even on their radar.

I beg to differ on that one…

@Jim Oaks I'm seeing pre 2010 Altima and accords for less than $3000 on FB marketplace. Most of those 2.5 Nissans have a cvt. Corollas and Civics around the same era are slightly cheaper
