I have a 1985 ranger v6 2.8 litre 4x4. I want to put a new carb on it. What's difference between the 2100 and the 2150 except for emissions? Which one is better. I'm thinking the 2100 for power.

The 2150 is actually a better carburator. Neither will gain you any power over the other

There was the 2150 regular carb with adjustable idler jets and idle and choke adjustments
And there there was the 2150A, the feedback carb and what came on the 2.8l, it had limited adjustments so owner couldn't change it for emissions reasons
2150A had wire harness and fuel line connection, used with simple emissions computer
2150 just had the fuel line connection, and "maybe" a wire for electric choke, heating element, manual carb no computer needed

2100 is a 2150 without a nod towards MPG and emissions, 2100 may be the better choice if you like to tune for best power, but might be harder to find in good condition

There are different "size" venturis for each, this sets CFM, so made for V6 or V8 engines
2.8l is 272 cfm @ 5,500rpm so you want 300cfm or so setup for the carb

Last 2100 was used in 1974, so they are pretty old now but I think you can still get rebuild kits for them
2150 is newer, 1972-1985 or so, and not a bad carb at all, but later models were "A" version and you don't want that

EDIT: I think the 2100 also had the option for manual choke, 2150 didn't, so get electric choke if you go 2150

I just moved this to the 2.8L forum

Engines suck, carbs squirt...

Wait.

Injectors squirt.

Carburetors leak with style.

Dont listen to these guys....except ron.

Anyways...the 2150 has a better automatic choking system, improved acclerator pump, and IIRC a better power valve design over the 2100.

The 2100 isnt any more "tuneable" then the 2150.

Honestly for a daily driver the 2150 is amazing. I got one on my old 77 F250... after you get them set...forget about it. It starts just as fast at 0* as my wifes 2010 escape. No stumble or stall or other cold driveabilty problems, the 2150 is generally regarded as one of the (if not the) best factory carbs ever produced (pre feedback of course).

They are also dirt simple to rebuild...a somewhat mechanical novice could have it off, rebuilt, reinstalled, and tuned within 3 hours...even with a piss break in between.

Thats impressive.

Especially at your age... a pee can take a good minute
