My credo
it is what it is
as the title reads...what are yalls opinions on an older carbed 302 swap or a newr 95-97/8 explorer 302EFI?

For your 91? It will be much easier to use an EFI setup on a truck that has an existing EFI setup.

Also, EFI is superior to carb in pretty much every aspect.

As much as I love my carb set-up and how nice it looks, I'm in the process of gathering parts to go to efi. Will be a few years before I get started on the carb to efi swap.

Carb, HEI ignition system and manual trans means no computer, and easier adjustment for engine modifications you may want in the future.
Less MPG and more fiddling with settings is required.

But EFI, DIS ignition with auto or manual, means computer and better overall daily driver performance.
Better MPG and less fiddling with settings

So, IMO, use of the truck would determine direction you would take

I'm currently running a carb, hei dizzy and manual trans. It is about the simplest setup if needing to do a swap quickly.

Carb or efi? That's easy, do you see ANY vehicle past 1990 with a carb? EFI is the ONLY way to go, hands down. And I speak from experience, not just preference...

I'm with Ranger SVT on this one. I did the carb swap on a couple of older mustangs that I built and considered doing it when I did my 302 ranger swap. I caught hell figuring out the fuel injected wiring harness but honestly in the end, I'm glad I went fuel injected. The consistency of it alone is worth it let alone the fuel mileage. Whatever fuel mileage you have with a fuel injected setup u can basically cut it in half if you run a carb. Speaking from experience as well. Good luck whichever way you go.

The wiring aspect does not have to be a nightmare. If you get an explorer ignition setup, its easier than using the painless standalone harness. I can help you on that if you go that route...
