Hello all, I'm trying to do some maintenance on my 96 Ford Ranger(4x4 4.0 V6). The first thing I'm looking for is the PCV valve. Cant seem to find it. Also, I went under the car looking for the Vehicle Speed Sensor, but I'm not entirely sure which one of the connectors is the VSS. I am looking for the VSS because the speedometer is off. I think its the VSS because as I start going faster, the speedometer is less and less off(shows 35-40 at 25MPH; shows 70 at 65). Any help is much appreciated.

PCV is on the driver's valve cover, in the back, under the intake.

VSS will be on the drivers side rear of trans/transfer case, in '95-'97
In '98 the rear differential ABS speed sensor was used for ABS and speedometer.

In '95 the speedometer cable was removed but VSS stayed in the same place as it was used from early '90's for computer and cruise control and it will have a gear inside trans just like a cable had.
And if you don't have stock size tires you can adjust/correct speed by changing that gear.

Sensor will have 2 wires and be held in place by a bolt and "fork"

look here for examples: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/speedometer.shtml

I don't have stock size tires, but as far as I know that has been corrected already. This is a see rate issue. And, with nonstock tire, shouldn't It be off by a static amount?

No, tire or gear changes without speedometer correction produce a percentage error is the speedometer. At low speeds it will read correctly, but as you go faster it will get farther off.

I have the opposite issue...as I go faster it gets closer

The '95-'97 VSS should read 190-250 ohms, with wires disconnected.

I would pull it out, and check gear, make sure it isn't loose and if possible look in hole at the worm gear on drive shaft, mirror and flashlight may be.
And if speedo shows 70mph at 65mph real speed then get different gear
