Someone did just that on here a couple years ago (was called the Grizz Crab or something like that). I think the thread got lost in the last forum changeover fiasco though. Not sure what ever became of it.
I don't see too much room for error in widening the beams unless the dude's incompetent at welding (they're just formed steel). You'd be using a piece of 1" wide, 3/16" thick strip steel formed into the same cross-sectional shape as the beam.
