get a manual, but be careful with whatever you get, check it out good. i bought my truck with 87,xxx miles from the original owner and ended up having to replace tranny (kept popping outta first) and clutch... oh and a arms (98+) arnt too bad off road, i beat the crap outta mine and still daily drive her. ttb (83-97) is cheaper to lift though, but i think a arms are sexy. oh and with 98+ you get rack and pinion steering.
