guys im getting ready to pull the 2.8 out of my 85 2wd ranger.. can i pull motor/tranny all together or will i have to pull one at a time..also i have my 302/ c4trans. bolted together and im hopeing i can drop it in all together..can i do it...thanks

well i got the tools...lol..just dont know if i got the room...my garage is a 16ft wide x19ft long.. when i pulled the v8 from the 85 ranger donor truck, i pulled the motor then the tranny but that took some time...i guess i might have to pull 2.8 then the tranny and break the v8/tranny apart and do it one at a time...lol..wish i had a bigger building

check my build thread. i pulled engine/trans/t-case all in one, in my carport, with a hoist and a carb plate. didn't even use a chain.

how hard was it to remove the front clip..that would give me alot of room plus help me line things up for the engine mounts...plus other things..

probably the easiest part of a v8 swap :icon_thumby:

get a few "spot weld drill bits" (looks like a tiny hole saw). you'll break at least one

pulling the front clip makes everything MUCH easier.

-pull fenders and hood
-remove all wiring attached to core support, and fold it back over the side mirror
-remove radiator and hood latch cable
-unbolt front 2 body mounts
-drill out the spot welds holding inner fenders to body (near door hinges)

pull the front clip off as one piece.

thats the basics of it. once you dive in, it all makes sense :icon_thumby:

and i am test fitting my v8 with trans attached (adding t-case once its all in)

I dropped the t-case (5 bolts) and then pulled my 2.8 and A4LD together.

The 302/C5 went back in the same way. I let the air out of the front tires, not sure if that is it or the shorter transmission or both but it was easier setting the 302 in there than getting the 2.8 out. My truck also has a 3" bodylift which helps alot in many areas.

I didn't touch the front clip.

:D Dig those Redneck/Coonass counterweights !:icon_thumby::icon_cheers:

What is redneck about using junk tractor flywheels for a counterweight :icon_confused::D

Actually there are times they still barely enough...

I set the engine in without, and after I got everything set how I wanted it with the mounts I pulled it back up and put them on.

That would be a great time to do the dipstick too. I had to pull the ds header out in the truck to put that back in later. It wasn't too bad but the DS valvecover had to come off so it would go between the steering shaft and the engine.
