Can i get an opinion? BIG Decision


I would make them take the liens off it before I even touched it. $400 would be fair then, looks like it's been sitting a while...lots of cobwebs.

I would also stick with fixing what you have...$400 could probably fix what's wrong with yours and buy some cool stuff for it too.

It broke my heart today cause he wants to part it out and whatever doesnt go he sends to the junk yard to be smushed... and its like that thing is all together interior was amazing...same with exterior and the engine was nice and clean.. in person!

and i dont know much about the leins?

how would i go about checkin that?
and i will get the vin number thanks for that by the way...
 
What info can i get with the liscense plate number... i took a pic of that and would love to get asmuch info as possible...
 
Let it go, there are a million other nice B2s out there. A lien is a loan on the car that has not been paid off, so unless they pay it off, you cannot legally own the car. Whoever the lender was is the owner at this point. If you bought it right now, you would be responsible for paying off the loan on it AND whatever the car costs. So if they had a $1000 dollar lien on it, you'd be out $1400.
 
Looked it up...

No Leins and would cost 300 to get it caught up in registration

What should i do?

A) Keep the ranger and my money
B)Keep the ranger and get the motor out of b2
C)Keep the ranger buy the b2
D)Sell The ranger Buy the b2
 
Check Out Your EGR Valve, my 84 had similar syptoms and a light knocking sound. I "repaired" it and it was fixed.
 
A loose valvetrain will make some noise too, with solid tappets the 2.8 is a kind of a loud engine on a good day. If you haven't adjusted them yet you might try that. If you can't hear it knocking without really trying and it has good oil pressure I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Otherwise I have a hunch whatever is really wrong with your truck's emissions issues will not be easy to diagnose without someone knowing what they are looking for being there.

THe ranger is making its 1st trip with me to a shop so i cant get a HUGE Repair list

Got the ranger back today...

Mechanic said i need a new o2 sensor, pcv filter, an oil change, and choke!

he told me to drive it as much as possible to get it used to running right...

He gave it back and it ran better...

Still has a little high idle...

Changed my oil and filter and drove it for about 30 minutes... doesnt die on me anymore nor sputter just seems it has high idle and my throttle likes to stick a bit...

So next im getting a new o2 sensor and gonna throw that in...

Next week im going to adjust the tappets and change the valve stem seals... i noticed it was burning oil and the seals are notorious for going out on the 2.8

ANy other help suggestions and comments gladly appreciated

Just finished my 1st oil change today lol i know i know im amazing 20 years old and just did it lol...

Cant wait for my new o2 and valve seals!
 
so i suppose it wasnt a rod knock huh
 
Well this was a mechanic i never met...
And he didnt mention it...

And i asked my friend with an 83 and he said the 2.8's are just loud like all you said...

So sorry for all that mess... i kicked my friends mechanic in the ars and will stop talking to him lol...

Im doing a compression test today... see where my engine stands..

so we will see how that goes...

then new mechanic did a pretest and am trying to get those numbers... once i do i will post them..
