My Edge doesn't have power windows, locks, or mirrors. How difficult of a job would this be to swap out for power ones? I can get new door panels, wiring, motors, etc from my local salvage yard.

yeah it can be done, u can get the GEM module of just wire em as u want using relays, i added pw to mine and did it runing a power wire to the batt, a relay to the acc position in the key switch and works great!, OEM motors and control panels on the doors.

just be sure to pick parts from an exact year as yours

why is that/ I have an '01 all manual and im in the process of gathering stuff to make it all power. I am using a '99 donor. I spent 3 hours today removing the under dash wiring harness. So are you saying I wasted my time using this vehicle and i really need and '01 donor?!

no its fine, i grafted a 2002 dodge durango setup into my 2000 dodge dakota. so its fine, just use the wiring diagram from the truck your taking the stuff from. it makes life easier.

the parts on mine came of a 03 ranger, so the motors and window assembly didnt fit, they had to be custom fitted.
thats why i recommend exact same year

I pulled the entire under dash wiring harness yesterday out of the '99. It is an automatic 2WD and mine is a standard 4x4. Do I just have to seperate the wires for the power window/locks/mirrors from that harness and intergrate it into my harness? Cause I dont think i can just use the '99 harnes.

yeah u can do that, u have the GEM module?? it goes behind the radio on the dash.
if not use the donor harness and activate em through relays

i dont know what the GEM Module is. There was a metal modula that was mounted to the right of the radio in a verticle position with a plug on the top. The radio was already removed when i got to the truck, the wires to the radio were cut. I cant just use my GEM Module?

*Ok i did some research and found some info. Why would I need the GEM from the other truck if It controls:
Wipers
Washers
Dome light
Seat Belt light/buzzer
Door ajar
Key in warning
Lights on key removed warning
Ignition
Speedo
4WD shift?

**And after some more research I now know why i need the other GEM.

So my plan is to just strip the power window/lock/mirror wires out of the other harnes and intergrate it into my wirining harness and fuse panel and use the GEM from the other truck. Now, will it matter that the other truck is 2WD and mine is 4x4 or will the GEM still work in my truck?

i dunno if it will work, cuz they are diff years too, and remember 00+ has antitheft
u better leave your stock GEM and do some rewiring using relays
its more reliable that way too
mine only has a power wire to batt, a fuse, and the relay doing the hard work
its not that hard

well I called a Ford Tech at the local dealership and he recommanded the same thing. Just wire it without the GEM Module and use relays. Im still not sure what relays I need. Also I assume I just find a constant hot with an inline funse to power them and a ground?

I done it....mines a 1993 tho...wasnt too much trouble....i had to pull all my interior out neways due to water damage so it wasnt bad...i got eerything outta salvage yard too

yep easier, besides someone told me that most fails on power systems occur on the GEM, not on the motors, so with simple relays u wont get GEM issues.
my power windows installation only has 1 relay, the electrician went with a Ford relay, just like the one for a/c or other stuff like that.
of course inline fuse is a must. mine is 20amps if not wrong.
what u need is a diagram of the door switches, cuz i dont know how to wire em.
actually that would be great, cuz i want to put power locks on mine :D

Well if i get it down ill send u some schematics. But now i have to find a different truck if the 01 stuff didnt fit in ur 99 and im using a 99 for my 01 lol.

*Just called my local parts store and the '99 and '01 power window motor and the same! So looks like ill go pull those tomorrow of the donor '99 and work on it this weekend in my truck. hopefully i can figure out the wiring before monday for work lol.

u better get 01 parts so u wont get into trouble.
and im gonna thank u soo much if u get the schematics.
any question ask, ill try to help u out:icon_thumby:

Like my edit says. I called the local auto parts store and the 01 and 99 are interchangable so I should be good.
