Can a V6 actually sound GOOD.

you know, theres a reason this forum is called TheRANGERstation, and not theFOREIGNstation:thefinger:

The 2.3 is just about as ranger as it gets. Probably more 2.3s in rangers than any other engine.:thefinger:

Should I go on about non-V8 domestic engines? Buick 3.8 turbo, Jeep 4.0 with a decent exhaust, Ford SHO V6 (the old one, the new one doesn't make hardly any noise apparently), and for the foreign markets but made by Ford, Barra 4.0 turbo I6, Focus ST 2.5 turbo I5, any of the Ford Cosworth engines of any size...

Gotcha. My point was that most any engine can sound good as long as it's high performance, and the exhaust is not some fart can or cherry bomb.

And for those who define "good sound" as "V8 sound", no, your ranger will never sound good, and you should go buy a
[redneck voice]1978 blazer with a 7.5:1 compression 350, a three-quarter race cam, dual three inch exhaust with flowmastas, an them fancy splitfire spark plugs![/redneck voice]
That should be the most efficient way to turn gasoline into noise without the undesirable side effects of horsepower.

He would have mentioned all the good high performance engines Ford built that were v-8's but they HAVEN'T. Unless of course you count the new SHO, where they wasted the engine in a stupid family sedan in some half-assed attempt to compete in the luxury sports sedan market.

Actually I think Harley-Davidson may have a trademark on that.

You mean kind of like the original SHO:icon_twisted:, and for the record the new SHO actually sounds alright if you walk on it, hell even the "regular" 3.5 sounds alright. But the faint turbo whistle and dual exhausts sounds pretty good.

i have 2.5" Cat back Flowmaster delta Flow Super 40 on my 2.9 GT every body thought it had a V8 it sound real good, but my buds old 01 3.8 camaro that had a flowmaster did not sound good at all.

I didn't mention the old one in Fords engines since it was about as Ford as my motorcycles.

Yamaha sure new how to build a V6. But i still say a V6 can sound good.

^^ damn that does sound good.

X'S 2!

My wife's ex has a 80 something Chevy truck and his has a 6 banger in it with 3" pipes, no cats and magnaflows and it sounds a lot like that. Bigger pipes with less restrictions will get you where you want to be.:icon_thumby:

I've got to do mine soon cause when I was up under it messing with those hangers, I noticed mine was flaking and falling apart. I'm gonna get some tube benders and flange makers and do my own!

(mostly V8s). I surely wouldn't put duals on a vehicle with a single exhaust manifold.

You know a V6 has two manifolds right? lol But anyways, my friend's 91 Ranger with the 2.9 sounds awesome for a V6. Its stock manifold/cat, and right after the cat its 2.25 inch into a cherry bomb extreme I sold him, single in, dual out. It sounds AMAZING, NO its no V8, but it sounds niice for a V6. Nice, low, rumbly, not ricey whatsoever. I'll have to film his truck revving and post it sometime
