California or Federal PCM?

Hi all. Im pretty sure I need a new computer for my 85 Bronco II. And I was wondering how do I figure out what PCM I need? The California or the Federal PCM? The guy I bought it from had mentioned the Bronco was originally from Cali. But I have no way to determine if it was from Cali. Does it matter anyway if I were to put a Federal in a Cali or visa versa? I live in Michigan and there are no emission tests that need to be passed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Better to got with California PCM since your Bronco's make in Cali.

85 bii, were those carburated? those computer controlled carbs suck, worst of both worlds of EFI and carb.. theres should be a sticker on the PCM that has the model number on it you could compare with to be sure.. if it is a carb, i would rip the computer stuff off, but thats just me...

How did you determine it was the computer. With those old feedback systems there is a good possibility it is not the computer. If you can get a cheap one out of the bone yard and see what it does. Pull the codes and if you get multiple EGR codes bail on the computer and do the duraspark conversion. For a little more than the refurbished computer you can bring that engine to life.

You don't say what your issue is, but the carburated 2.8 should run without the computer connected. It will be down on power due to a rich mixture and not having any timing advance but it should run.
