Has anyone heard of or know if its possible to attach a C6 to a 4.0l? my tranny went out today and i know the c6 will be tough as nails and will be the 205.it would also be perfect for when i swap in the 351 eventually. i looked on advanced adapters and they dont even list the c6 on their listing of transmission to engine adapters

doubt it, i believe they had the bellhousing made on to it but dont hold me to it. c6 would be overkill.

just get a c5 if u are 4wd, if not get a c4 and get a c5 bellhousing and t/c

yea i called advance adapters they said that the 4.0l housing is just too small for the c6 and they couldnt make an adapter. im considering the c5 now. the only bad thing is that the c5 has no overdrive. ill have to keep looking into it.

do you know if the c5 and c6 tail housings are the same? as in can i still stick a 205 on the c5?

also my truck is originally 2wd and it is the original 2wd a4ld tranny that went out. i wasnt planning on swapping it til spring but now i have to. i wouldnt think that would make much difference since the 4.0l bolt pattern is the same. please let me know of differences

The C6 is only a 3 speed too, the C4/5 would probably get better milage since they take a lot less power to actually run.

You can switch around C4 and C5 tailhousings but C6 stuff is a different critter.

You might check and see if they make an adapter to go to a AOD. It would be a automatic with OD that would also mate to a 351W.

I have had a JY A4LD in my Ranger for 8 years and it still works great, paid $300 for the whole truck (with a caved front end) so I wouldn't rule out used either, especially if you are serious about your plans. AA stuff isn't cheap and I imagine it is due to lack of demand (you might have a hard time finding a buyer for that part when you are done with it) I would stick in a used one and save my money for a 351.

yea i get what your saying on the gas mileage. my a4ld didnt start messing up until i did my sas. i feel like the tranny just cant handle it. i'm afraid if i put another one in there its just going to to out too. i can get any tranny at pick apart for $100 but theres no gurantee whats going to be out there when i go or what condition its in.

i really do want to save for my 351 but i dont know when that will be since im in college with a house payment. i just want something strong that will last and i can sell it when im done

Might look into a M5OD swap then, it is a stick but is pass or fail if it is in working order.

$100 plus whatever they catch you for the pedals and stuff and no busting trannys apart to switch parts or ordering oddball stuff that is overpriced with little chance of resale. That is of course if you don't like my AOD idea...

It took me 5 years to get enough together after college to even seriously think about putting a V8 in my Ranger.

yea i believe it, it took me like 3 years of planning and a whole year of saving and working full time over summer saving every penny and i still dont have the sas complete. when it came down to it, it was like i only want to lift this thing once so its go big or go home and ill figure the rest out on the way lol. i need a new tranny and transfercase (married or divorced) probably not divorced since they usually run way more pricey, and gears and driveshaft for the front. im hoping to knock out those with my tax check. i think the 4.0l can pull through.

what does the aod come in?

It was my understanding the c4 had no overdrive and the c5 was just a c4 with overdrive. So does the c5 have overdrive or not and what else could be the difference between the two trans?

based on your signature, i wanna see pics of this truck!

The C5 is basically a C4 with a different valvebody and a lockup torque converter. The lockup torque converter hasn't been available for awhile so it is hit and miss if one is really "better" than the other at this point.

The V8 C5 also has a deeper bellhousing for the torque converter than a C4.

I am using a V8 C5 with the V6 C5 tailhousing for my 302 swap. I went with the C5 bell in hopes that it would push the tranny back and maybe make up for the difference in length between the C5 case and my A4LD.

I totally agree :shok:, dunno if a C4/5 would be all that happy with it. Not sure about a AOD either (from F-series or broncos btw)

Do you just drive it around or wheel with it?

I would be half tempted to let it sit until you get a 351 and a C6 in it. I don't think anything smaller not built to the hilt (aka not a $100 JY tranny) will live long with those tires.
