On an automatic transmission it should be a never resort.
Don't tell that to Chrysler. My Grand Cherokee came factory with RTV on the pan.

Stellantis ain't Chrysler.
AND Chrysler ain't Jeep, and Jeep ain't what it used to be. Hardly matters- I'm referring to my 1993 model. So if you care to hop into your DeLorean and go back to the 90's, it would be Chrysler.
That wouldn't be too bad, Lee Iacocca was still around.

This is so true and so far I'm not impressed with how the Europeans intend to "show us".
C4 gasket and retention ring came in yesterday morning, in other news! Not even two whole days following the purchase!
Good news and sad news.
The good: C4 Lubelocker gasket fits the C5 pan perfectly.
The sad: The C4 reinforcement ring from JBG is definitely not a match...

If you have a good fab shop nearby they should be able to scan your gasket and make a reinforcement ring however wide it needs to be to fit your pan.
That's an idea, alright!

1/4 in flat stock and a CNC plasma table would make very short work of that. (And generate plenty of waste material...)
UPDATE!!!
Been dealing with fires at work and working extra hours for the last three weeks so I haven't had much time to do anything. However, I made a go at modifying the reinforcement ring with what I had...
As one can observe, the C5 transmission pan is not fully identical to the C4, and it has one serious hog of a corner, which has to be accommodated. On the ring, I marked where to grind, and it took about twenty minutes of grinding with the dremel, bench grinder, and finishing with a file to get the ring to fit the pan- and what do you know, it fits!!
There isn't a lot of room to play with, a few of the bolt holes are definitely not lined up the same.
1. Should I widen the bolt holes?
2. After grinding, some of the metal stuck to the pan side of the ring, basically welding to the surface. They're small bits and I can probably get them off with a little elbow grease, but could a little bit of this hinder the ring's function?
3. Also, I may need longer bolts, will this be a problem if I do?
I'd love for this to work.
