byrons "ranger#1" 4x4 long travel build up

http://www.abrasives4sale.com/crimped_wire_brushes.htm
these are the best things iv ever used but iv never bin able to find one for a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder again

Those are good for knockin down heavy rust but will not get completely down to bare metal as there is no grinding action knocking down the pitting caused by rust. I have never seen or used one like that on a 4 1/2 grinder are you sure it wasnt one of these?

Removal of finger would be less of a concern with the guard installed. I have seen some real nasty accidents with people using grinders without the guard installed. Be safe :icon_thumby:

yea none of mine have gaurds but i hate to say it but they get in the way

In the way or not better to be safe then end up like some of these people. Now dont take this as me trying to lecture you, I am just showing you what can and does happen, and for the most part most do not fully realize how dangerous that tool is until its too late. Those wheels spin at very high speeds, one flaw in them could cause an explosive failure of the wheel sending sharp shrapnel into your person. That gaurd is on there for a reason if you find it in the way use a different tool as it is obviously not the right one. Once you remove that you are playing with fate yes you may get lucky and think you can handle it, its not a big deal I dont need that safety non sense. But all it takes is just that one time, that one perfect series of events for you to never be able to see again or worse. Sorry the following is gonna be alittle disturbing to some but I think it is good education.

I belive this was caused by the grinder with guard removed being set on a surface and spinning around catching this person in the face.

Copied from medical site

26 year old male was injured as the blade of the angle grinder he was using shattered at high speed. He sustained deep wounds to his right upper lip, nasal base and left cheek,

43 year old male was injured when the angle grinder he was using kicked up from the edge of a flag stone. The guard had been removed from the angle grinder by his neighbour and it was not replaced prior to its use.

Sorry again for the nasty pics, hopefully they cause someone to think twice and make the right decision.:icon_thumby:
