Buying new truck need help please!

Hello all,

This is a re-introduction. I had a 1991 ranger and loved it and now Im looking at a 2000 XLT 4x4 w/ a 3.0 V6 141,000 miles.

The good: Nice paint, engine sounds strong, started right up, fairly clean throughout, With the exception of 1st gear it shift super smooth.

The bad: Slight hesitation when pressing the gas in or braking to a stop. It almost feels like its a hesitation in first gear. Some minor rust that has been covered up but still may be an issue, oil temp guage takes a while to kick in and function, needs brakes.

Can anyone give me some pointers on what to offer the guy, anything I should be weary about or look for on the truck, and has anyone had any hesitation issues? The transmission worries me. I was thinking about offering 3000 so that if it does go bad I can swap it out and not feel as bad as if I paid full price. This will be my daily driver so I want to get something as reliable as possible within my budget.

if you can do it for 3000 you did a good job. that truck is worth in my eyes 4000. as for the trans, its up to you, id stay a mile away from anything with trans issues.
