so about 7 months ago i went to walmart and bought a 3 ton black jack service jack. the other night i was using it and it wouldnt go up past half way. i let some air out of it and filled it back up with fluid. 2 days later, it does the same thing.

what does every one recomend?

I've been using the Harbor Freight 3 ton service jack for a long time (the one in my garage right now is 7 years old I think), it's the one that's usually around $65, lifts to around 20", is heavy but trusty...

i was really looking at the harbor freight jack. i was hoping to not spend an arm and a leg.

my buddys dad has had really good experience with the napa brand, but they are spendy. if i have to spend that much for a reliable jack i will.

i thought about a craftsman so i could return it but i would have to drive out of town which is like 100$ in gas, to the nearest store. (our current sears is going to be shut down soon)

any one know if the rapid pump feature on the harbor freight jack is reliable? reliability is my main concern, i dont really care about weight, but i would prefer a wide base.

on a side note, im pretty sure i did easily 1000+ lifts with the walmart jack, but i still dont feel that 6-7 months is long enough for a jack.

My NAPA 3-ton floor jack has served me well. Going on 25 years now.

There is a good thread on rebuilding jacks at "the garage journal". I'm out of town right now or I'd give a link.

It's a boat anchor...it happens. Don't trust with an arm, leg or anyone else's. Mine is red, don't remember which farm store I got it at but I never trust a jack unconditionally...always back it up with jackstands.

Been using a Harbor Freight 3 ton jack now for 2 years maybe, got it on sale for like $70 has not let me down at all.

So how did you get the truck back on the ground?:icon_twisted:

I may have to look into one of these myself... I have an MVP superlift SUV jack from wally world that is about 10 years old. takes for ever to pump up... sounds like it is about time to replace it...

I have an Arcan 3.5 ton floor jack. Goes up quickly, lifts what it says, survives being left outside all year. Goes under very low vehicles and raises up very high. I was willing to spend almost anything for those capabilities and was willing to take a chance on this because it had the best numbers and was very cheap. I set a $500 budget and I bought this for about $120.

Craftsmen tools are not what they used to be. Several years ago they started to change there ways of replacing items. If its a ratchet they give you a new gear set to install into the ratchets head. If its a torque wrench they only have a 1 yr warranty. But yet they advertise lifetime warranty on Hand tools. For hand tools I have a mixture of Craftsmen, Stanley, Lowes Cobalt & Harbor Freight. My current torque wrench is HF & I returned it once without any issues. Most companies have a 90 day to 1 year warranty on floor jacks.

ALL of HF HAND tools have a lifetime replacement most other brands do also ,but Craftsmen has changed its ways & warrantees over the years.

The Arcan Quick Rise Professional Service Jack - 3 1/2-Ton, Model# XL35 sold on Amazon might be Reg Price: $159.99 & Sale: $139.99 But + $109.88 shipping
It has a 1 yr warranty as well as Craftsmen & many other companies

HF floor jacks have 90 days warranty. I heard that NORCO has a lifetime warranty & Milwaukee doesn't have any warranty

I just replace my 1/2 ratchet yesterday at Sears. I have had it for over 20 years. Still have the receipt. They just handed me a brand one, no questions asked. This is the second tool in over 40 years I have ever broke from Craftsman. Not bad at all. I have a Sears floor jack that is over 20 years old and still works great!!!
