I have the chance to pick up a 2000 XLT V6 2WD for cheap money. The A/C doesn't work the left front wheel has a shimmy, it has 190k miles, auto. Any suggestion on what else to look for? Its going to be an around town, local use truck for me. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Body rust, has it been crashed and the frame straightened back out, is the cat still good. I'm sure there are other threads on this topic. Just search it

dont get a high mileage truck with the auto trans, youre just asking for trouble

Good point rose2300 my mom had a 99explorer. Had the same trans. And it went at 110000 miles.

Thanks for the replys, like I said this will be for around town. This particular truck is some kind of odd ball, is has the small cab, 6 foot bed 2wd and the V6. From my quick inspection there was, which looked to me anyway, a factory tranny cooler. The read end has a leak at the drive shaft seal and the tranny pan is leaking. The car is rust free and the front end was just done in the fall, the tires have about 75% left. For less than 1K I don't think there is too much risk. Anyone know what the timing belt interval is on a 2000 V6?

Regular cab, short box, automatic trans and 2wd were NOT rare at all, in fact they were one of the most popular configurations. Does it have the 3 Liter or 4 Liter? For that year and the year before, the 3 Liter ONLY came in flexible fuel form, does it have the leaf/road logo on the tailgate?
