Hi all, 1999 ford ranger 3.0 automatic flex fuel 129,000 miles

I’m getting a burnt oil smell. I recently did. the valve cover gaskets over the summer. No smells for a little bit but in the last month or so I’ve been getting an occasional burnt oil smell from the engine bay.

i looked around and could see some oil around the oil filler cap. I bought a new cap but it doesn’t seem to have done anything.

could this be the cause of the smell? I also have an exhaust leak at the manifold. See photo

I doubt that bit of oil on the cap is causing the smell.

Manifold leak should smell like exhaust unless youre burning oil in a decent quanity.

I would recheck the torque on your valve cover bolts and/or look for seepage. 9/10 times burnt oil smell from under the hood is related to valve covers

that black messy stuff under the valve cover could be part of the smell. that oily stuff picking up dirt
