you know, I've seen it suggested, but never seen it done

each time someone tries, they encounter the different intake manifold mounting, and something about the distributors don't work.

I even saw a guy who in attempt to get past the different intake manifold mounting, even tried swapping the 2.9 heads onto it.....didn't work, the pushrods were all not quite on the right places, this is because the ports are in different places, therefore the valves are in different places, thus the pushrods are in different places, also the camshafts on a 2.8, and 2.9 spin in opposite directions. there are so many reasons that this doesn't work

It was probly a typo, alot of people confuse the 2.8 and 2.9 even thought the only thing thats the same about them is the fact that they are both v6s

They use the 2.9 computer, harnesses and all the other things (setup) and hook it to the 3.8 tbi.

Yes, i have seen that one single time. But the fuel curves of the 2.9 are intended to use (6) 14lb/hr. Injectors (84lb/hr. Total) the 3.8 uses (2) 37lb/hr injectors (74lb/hr. Total)

When done this way that is 13 % too little fuel. And you still need to jury rig an iac valve in somewhere

Likewise it is a dash pulling, full harness swap, which is a ton of work

Swapping out computer harnesses is a cake walk on these trucks, it's only the one through the passenger side firewall.

My dad and I have done a tbi swap on my dad's old 84 in ten straight hours, that includes a tank swap, taking out the old feedback carb crap and swapping in the tbi stuff and wiring it up and driving it that night. If we had more time and funds, we would have done this exact swap on his truck, it at least put the Chevy tbi on the intake and hooked up the injector wires to it and see what it had done (this is of course carefully studying wiring diagrams).

There's more then one way to skin a cat. Until every way has been tested to do a tbi swap on a 2.8, we can't say what way is best.

From my understanding, all the injector care about is of it gets the correct voltage signal to open them up. I have manually opened them by applying 12v to them because they were stuck closed.

The 3.8 doesn't have an iac, at least none that I had did.

They're both Cologne engines of the same thing, one is fuel injected the other is carbureted. 2.8L has timing gears, the 2.9L had a timing chain. Same design basically though.

I stand corrected they are both cologne v6s. Everything else is different.

On a side note isnt cologne german? So are these motors part german or did they just inherit the name.

the original cologne design was from Europe, with partners like cosworth helping with the design/development.

the cosworth, European 2.9 was a really cool fuel injection system. a lot of guys wish we could have gotten them here

in the '60s ford named their engines after the plants that produced them, Cleveland v8 was produced in Cleveland, Windsor was produced in Windsor etc. and the cologne was produced in cologne Germany

the euro-2.9 intake manifold: it looks pretty cool, and has a massive dual-bore throttle body like the V8s

and the cosworth, quad cam 2.9, which actually used basically the same block as the us2.9:

I still love the old big blocks tho.
